Travelling to Sweden and may try to pick up a pair of euro headlights while there. Obvisouly this is in order to get the better high beam performance, but how does DRL work?
I would assume the DRL functionality is then performed by the low beams at all times?
Is this automatic or do you have to do any kind of software download to enable this functionality?
Also - can you use *any* S60/V70 Xenon light light housings? I understand I may loose the silver color surround and instead it's black, but it may be easier to find a set of used Xenons from any S60/V70 versus from an R. Seems like they were part of packages when the car was sold new.
Also - anyone happen to have the part number? Makes it easier to search the the parts over the phone?
Thanks!

Re: Question for people with Euro lights (FastWgn)

Mine were silver not black, you lose all DRL's...period.
The Euro light has no DRL function, if it goes to a country that requires DRLs then I believe Volvo installed the US style light on those cars

Re: Question for people with Euro lights (JRL)

Thanks for your reply. Yours were silver since you bought the "R" version, I woudl assume?
The normal S60/V70 was also sold with Bi-Xenons in Europe, but with the black surrounds.
So no DRL at all? So in Sweden (where DRL has been the law since many, many years) they used the US spec headlights? Interesting...
I would have thought they just ran the low beams as the DRLs, just as if you have DRLs enabled on a US spec car and it's dark outside.
Do you have to do any software upgrade to install Euro lights?
He also mentioned that it would be possible to adjust brightness of that hi-beam when used as DRL with some resistors. I don't recall all the specifics but read the lighting threads, there might have even been a wiring diagram there as well.

I had a quote for getting them shipped here through the dealer back in March, was 2800 for 2 lights + shipping and tax. Thats slave or angle gear repair... but driving outside the city sucks at night...
i just wish there was an easier way to do upgrade these lights. I like the drls since i never have to turn my lights on but have a hard time pulling the trigger on spending that kind of money to get better brights and then modify them right away by changing wiring and painting them. I might end up picking a used set of us spec ones and attempting to modify them in spare time.

The headlight switch doesn't do squat, except to cancel the highbeam feature in the off position.

I can't recall to have ever turned the car off with the light switch in the on position. I thought maybe the parking lights woudl remain on. Thanks for clarifying. In that case I should be in good shape, just always leave the switch in the on position.

When you put those part #s in trademotion's website they show a price of $800+ for each one.

Re: (johnauten)

I lived in Sweden back in the late '70s and they had DRL's at that time. I'm surprised that they did away with it now.
