Greetings -

I am looking to install a set of snowies on my 2004 XC70 for the winter as I expect to be encountering some high mountain passes over the new few months. I also have limited understanding of offset.

Currently, I have three sets of wheels for my S40 including a set of 16" steels with a terminal set of Michelins on them. My goal is to replace the rubber and use these wheels on the XC, however my understanding is that the XC requires a 49 MM wheel offset whereas the S40 requires a 52.5 MM offset (my 16" Caligos and 18" Medusa's are identical offset) and I have no idea what the offset is on the steel wheels (they came with the S40), so my question is............How much tolerance is there with respect to offset between the XC and S40? Can I expect that the S40 wheels will bolt onto the XC70 without interference with the calipers or suspension?? Anything else related that I should be aware of?

Any/all insights are welcomed ahead of me physically swapping out the wheels to 'test' the fitment.

Thx in advance.

Different center bore. Sorry mate.

S40: 63.4mm
XC70: 65.1mm

Regarding offset, anything less than 49mm will make the wheels stick out more, kind of like have spacers. If you like the look. Not sure o any stock wheels with a 65.1mm bore that are more than 49mm, but you may need spacers if you were to used them as there may be issues with rubbing and would look sunken into the wheel well.

Curses!!! - but thanks for the insights- forgot about the centre bore issue. OK, so I will apparently be adding a fifth set of Volvo wheels and tires to the collection.......

Craigslist, here we come.

Upon reflection, a related query - Can I safely assume that P2 vehicles have the same centre bore, with a variety of offsets?

XC90 is different @ 67.1mm, which yo can get rings for. S80, S60, S70, 850, V70, XC70 are all 65.1mm.

Quick Search:
Model Stud pattern Offset Centre Hub Bore
850, S70, V70, S60, XC70 5x108 / 5x4.25 35-50mm 65.1mm
850 4x108 / 4x4.25 35-40mm 65.1mm
XC90 (2003-2013) 5x108 / 5x4.25 35-50mm 67.1mm
S40, V50, C30 (2004-2013) 5x108 / 5x4.25 35-50mm 63.4mm
V70T6, S80, XC60, S60, V60 (2008-2014) 5x108 / 5x4.25 35-50mm 63.4mm
144, 164 5x108 / 5x4.25 10-20mm 65.1mm
440, 460, 480 (1986-1997) 4x100 / 4x3.94 35-45mm 52.1mm
Model Ring size
XC90/XC60 -> 850 67.1mm -> 65.1mm
XC90/XC60 -> S40 / C30 67.1mm -> 63.4mm
850 -> S40 / C30 & later 2008 models 65.1mm -> 63.4mm

Alright - so where I am at is as follows - I have lined up an awesome deal on a set of steel wheels and Michelin Alpins that are off of a 2008 V70. They are however a 3 hour round trip drive, which I am fine with IF they actually fit.

850, S70, V70, S60, XC70 5x108 / 5x4.25 35-50mm 65.1mm
V70T6, S80, XC60, S60, V60 (2008-2014) 5x108 / 5x4.25 35-50mm 63.4mm

Antherzoll - as excerpted from your chart above, you reference that the 2008 V70T6 hub is actually smaller - is this consistent across the entire 2008 V70 model line and MOST importantly, will the 2008 V70 wheels bolt on to my 2004 XC70???

Again - any/all insights are greatly welcomed. Thx in advance.

Curses - again!!!!

But again, thanks for the prompt insights - the deal was $200 for all four wheels and tires with only 15K on them. $#@!*&^% The search continues, but at this point I think I have drilled down on what I can look for which will be anything 2001 - 2007 - S70, V70, S60, XC70 5x108 / 5x4.25 35-50mm 65.1mm.
