The story: car seems to have a leaking slave cylinder (to be confirmed soon). After babying the clutch for many years I said to myself: the thing is going out , let's drive this car like it was meant to. I did a couple "spirited" drives, nothing crazy tho, not beyond the grip of the tires.
Now, adding insult to injury, I have power steering groan. On fluid inspection the level is OK, but there are copious amounts of foam in the tank. I remember reading this and this , where a change from ATF to CHF11S was recommended, as well as a new revised reservoir.
Would this fix things?
If you have had your 04 reservoir upgraded, please do tell how it's working out.

If you have had rack failure with similar symptoms, please chime in too. My profusely-leaking rack was replaced in 2006 under warranty. I would like to know if it's failing again. ( I know people here have had multiple rack failures)
For the price of replacing clutch+slave+collar(preventive)+rack...might as well do the unthinkable...

Re: Question about power steering reservoir (FEO)

I had mine replaced, it was leaking. The only time I noticed any groan was when the fluid level was low, topping it off made it go away.
I've had the new one for a few months now and no more problems.

Re: Question about power steering reservoir (MeisterBrau)

My reservoir's been replaced once so far due to a leak (no groan though), but not upgraded to the new design. The tech told me they all leak, old and new, from what he'd seen. I'm still on the original rack, 100k miles.
Do the rack when you do the clutch. Probably save $ on the labor that way.

Re: Question about power steering reservoir (S60R1)

racks are not exactly cheap...it could be all those bubbles in the system...and it does not seem to be leaking (for now)

Re: Question about power steering reservoir (FEO)

I had mine replaced and upgraded to the newer design a few months ago. My leak was from the cap. Apparently there's a plastic shield piece that often breaks off that prevents the return from spraying directly at the cap on the older design. New design doesn't have that problem. No leaks since.

my rack was replaced last year...this year I had the steering pump replaced, I had the groan...and the leak, and the bubbles, I believe I have the new design, but I will have to get a visual inspection again to see where the tube comes out to see if i have the new design. Ive had it for about a month now...so far

Re: (QnsMostWanted)

No groan for me, just a really squeaky fluid soaked belt.
