I just purchased a 2003 C70 with the Premium Audio which included the 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker. I can not figure these 12 speakers are located. The most important question are there 2 subs behind the seats. If so how are they powered. Thanks
Re: Question about 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker 2003 C70 (Jexx)

Thanks I have no center channel speaker but the window sticker reads 12 speaker premium audio system. This is my actual problem I replaced the 902 factory radio with a new alpine w404 Ipod 2din radio. I also replaced the factory amp with a SQ Audison amp . Before the change i had thumping bass now i don't. i figure there was a sub somewhere. I have read in different forums they say there are subs behind the rear seats ????????
TOTALLY CONFUSED . The factory link shows for a 2009 mine is a 2003

Re: Question about 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker 2003 C70 (PASSIONC70)

Yeah, sorry, I didn't mention that the model I posted is a S40, but speaker location should be the same.
The volvo headunit itself has its own independent amplifier (25w) in it specifically for the center speaker, separate from the amplifier that drives the rest of the speakers. Thus you most likely do have a center speaker, but it isn't hooked up. This is a common problem when installing aftermarket hu's in these cars.
There are no subs offered from Volvo behind the rear seats. The rear speakers may well sound like they are subs in Dolby mode, however.
It's rare that you actually have LESS bass after your new system, in fact one of the first times I've seen such a thing happen. How much power does the aftermarket amp put out (RMS specifically)?

Re: Question about 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker 2003 C70 (Jexx)

THE AMP puts out 50 watts RMS at .001% THD. The factory Alpine was 100 watts RMS at 10% THD. Usually there is a speaker on the dashboard for the center channel i have none and there are no holes there for one. This is why i am baffeled. I tell you the bass was really low and now it gone.

My bad, I did some more research and realized there CAN be two subs behind the seats. I can't find the particular diagram for your model as you can tell, will post it when I do

Re: Question about 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker 2003 C70 (PASSIONC70)

The subwoofer option in the '03 C70 was not in the trunk, but behind the rear seats (the C70 was redesigned in '08 or '09--I don't remember). One way to tell if you have them (besides looking behind the trim panels in the trunk) is if you have a switch on the backside of the center console, facing the rear seat, to turn the subs on or off.
Do you have a coupe or convertible? The former have speakers in the hat shelf (package tray) while the coupe places them the rear passenger side panels.
Volvo counts the center channel speaker as one driver, if you had one they would have listed an odd number of speakers on the sticker. I don't think any vehicles came from the factory with oe subs; they were strictly an option.
FWIW, the wiring diagrams for the coupe do not show subwoofers--but that may not mean anything.
What did you do to wire in your new HU?

My car is a convertable and i do not have a switch but the owners shows this switch to turn off the " rear Speakers" . i used an Alpine to Volvo converstion plug. Great unit looks OE. Just lost my bass. Sucks.

Are your rear speakers working? Play around with your faders and check each one. Try turning the treble off and run the bass up and see what you get.
That car has a true 3-way up front and the rear speakers are 8" woofers in the side panels. If they are working you should know it.
Check your EQ settings, too.

Re: Question about 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker 2003 C70 (PASSIONC70)

Passionc70, check your private mail, I sent you some info.
In Volvo's audio biology brochure (check your PM), they show that there was a configuration as follows in the convertible:
SC-901 RDS with separate
4x100 W Premium Sound
amplifier and 12 Premium
Sound loudspeakers including
two 9" sub-woofers
An even # of drivers says, to me, that there is no center channel driver, and suggests that there is no ProLogic (and no PL decoder behind the HU). The 12 drivers imply there are the two 9" drivers behind the seat.
Is there any mention of ProLogic on your sticker?
I would think that there is a switch somewhere to turn off the rear subs and it was disconnected or turned off somehow leading to your loss of bass. IIRC, someone posted about this a few years ago, too. Look around again, are you sure there is no switch?
I am no expert on this and you might have better luck asking some of these questions in the C70 forum, too--don't cross post, but ask the question and and link to this thread.
There has been some confusion over the years about what actually was installed in some of these vehicles, you're not the first to question it.

Re: Question about 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker 2003 C70 (PASSIONC70)

Here is something you need to read:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...age=1
Audioguy was a Volvo employee that used to post here until corporate shut him down. He was on the team that created your sound system.
A lot of the confusion around the c70 audio arises from mistakes in counting the speakers, even audioguy was not immune to this.

Re: Question about 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker 2003 C70 (MrTippy)

This is PURE speculation, but I'd guess that the OEM subs are sum mono'd off of the stock 4 x 100w amp rears.
That would be a pretty cost effective method to hook up some bass.
If you installed a new amp, I'd be curious how you connected it to the existing speakers.
If you ran new wires...Well, that could be your problem.
I'll look over the diagrams this evening and see what's there.

Re: Question about 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker 2003 C70 (BEJinFbk)

It looks like the Cabriolet (convertible) has a 3 way crossover that feeds the high's mids and the woofers in back,
(but I see no switch in the diagrams).
If you're getting any sound from the rears and you've used the stock speaker wiring harness, the bass should be there.

My two cents in the c70 forum.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=122928
fixed the link.

Re: Question about 12 speaker Dynaudio speaker 2003 C70 (MrTippy)

There really should be a switch for the seat back subs for the passengers to use. Climb in back and have a look.
It's clear in the diagrams ( once Mr. Tippy showed me the light! ) and the OM sez:
Speakers behind rear seat backrest (option)
The button on the rear console is used to turn the optional speakers behind the rear seat backrest on or off.
Just found it in this group of pics:
http://www.ecarlist.com/showro...3.jpg
Scroll down about 3/4's of the way. It's right next to the cigarette lighter!
