Re: Quaife Differenntial (kpsingh0)

The LSD is intended for a manual trans not an automatic. If you were looking to do some sort of trans upgrade you would have to look into aftermarket internals which sounds like uncharted territory for volvos. Doesnt sound like to many people have done a lot of auto trans upgrades. There may be shift kits and valve body assembly upgrades available but i wouldnt know who thru and how much.

Its really not uncharted territory there are so many mods to these cars its unreal.
You just need to look back at the 850/7xx volvos. Most parts are carry overs (like the engine and trans and if not the same very similar)
The auto trans is Aisin made, popular with toyotas. That should open some options.

Why do you want to upgrade the tranny anyway?

I know where he's coming from.
In the auto wheel spin is epic, a real problem. Dam torque multiplier, makes it dam near impossible to drive aggressively.
Update on Trans. We use the Asin AW55-50 on FWD and AW55-51 on the AWD (very similar trannys), also used in the Xc70, Xc90, S60, V70, C70, S80, S90 and the old S40. So the parts are very available.
Slightly modified but still Aw55-50's are also used by other manufactures. Saab uses them in the 9-3 and 9-5. The internals are used in the Saturn Ion Vue as the AF23-5 and the AF33-5, in the Chevy Equinox as the AF33-5, and in the Nissan Altima, Maxima, and Quest as the RE5F22A.
