I remember when the STi first came out, maybe people found that their 17" rims could not clear the Brembo brakes, and only a handful of 17's can be fitted over them.

Can any 17" rims be used on the R? Or is there also only a limited number of 17's that we can choose from?

there are a limited number of 17, 18, or 19's. Its not so much the vertical clearance as it is the horizontal.

Yes they can. The 04 R's came with 17's and the 18's were an option. On the early models anyway. If you are looking at aftermaket dealers, go to tirerack.com to see the wheels you like on your car. Then you will know for sure that they will fit. I hope this helps, Rick
