I had been car shopping for months looking for an awd vehicle to replace my aging Audi A4. Drove lots of different vehicles, but just couldn't pull the trigger on anything. Then I heard the 2010 V50 was being offered with a manual - I was pretty sure that was going to be the one. Thought about it for a bit, test drove an automatic and decided that to put down a deposit. Now the hard part: waiting. Other cars I considered/drove:
Audi A4 (sedan/avant/manual/auto)
Audi Q5
XC60 & XC70
Audi A3 (2.0/3.2)
BMW X3/328xi
Acura RDX
Toyota RAV4
Subaru Forrester/WRX/Legacy Spec B
GaryJ

^^GaryJ^^
Lakenheath is a nice base, England is what sometimes sucks. *Sorry to the UK people on this forum*
You have to drive so far just to do anything, It's not like America where you can hop on the freeway and BAM your at a mall with like 100+ stores and 150 places to eat around that area. Even Cambridge is played out...I dont even need a TomTom anymore when I go there. The only place that makes you feel like your some what in the US is London & Cardiff, Wales. But hey its Europe, people would kill to visit this place.

YOU DRIVE DOWN THE STREET IN AMERICA AND YOU COME UP ON A McDONALDS...
YOU DRIVE DOWN THE STREET IN THE UK AND YOU COME UP ON A CATHEDRAL THATS HUNDREDS OF YEARS OLD.

Re: (GaryJ)

OSD is great if you have not already done so be sure to go to the OSD Forum and pick up some ideas from all of us who have already done it.
One suggestion load up with a big breakfast at the Radisson don''t take delivery till 10:00 or 11:00 that give you time to do the papery work then eat lunch at the factory (do the tour afterword) then still be on the road by 2:00.
The Wife and I did it last year for my 50th B. Present and are already trying to figure out time to go again when it is time to replace her car.
By the way did you get the extra night at the Radisson they are offering this summer, Thats worth about $250.00 these days??

Thanks for the suggestion - I need to spend some time on the OSD forum. No extra night for me as I'm a first time Volvo owner. My wife had an 850 years back, but too long ago to count.
GaryJ

I see the V50 has the Manual option....what about the S40? I read some reviews that stated the newest only comes in Geartronic.

You can get manual on the S40 as well - both the 2.4 and T5.
