Re: proof our AWD system is inferior. (yerrow)

Wonder if the result would have been different if they'd turned off the traction control on the Volvo. It's odd that the driver side rear wheel didn't spin at all. The Subi doesn't even have traction control.
-Eric

i thought the volvo system is based more on how much gas your giving it, like more power is transfered to the rear when u give it more gas. i dunno what year he was using though, but i think he would have gotten better results if he put the peddal down more maybe not though.

Seems to me there is something WRONG with the XC70... I had one and it never did that off road or in the snow... all wheels spin, seems like haldex is just not working on that car. Maybe they pulled the haldex fuse LOL.

It almost looks as though they had the haldex deactivated - this also probably belongs in the XC70 forum, as only an idiot would try any of that with an R.

This is old, and I think people had said that the AWD was off.
It is clear from watching it that the rear wheels were not given ANY power since it didn't spin at all.

The Viscco needed a considerable speed difference between front and rear to activate.

I have never seen an XC70 get stuck like this on a hill of that sort. We have taken XC70s on steeper hills and with as much mud or a lot deeper snow. The car was up with great ease.
We were in Colorado, last year, and they had us drive an XC90 through muddy hills (steeper than what is shown on this idiotic video) and also at a specially made course where the XC70 had two wheels up in the air while the 3rd wheel was barely touching the ground. Car never got stuck.
Yannis

Re: proof our AWD system is inferior. (yerrow)

I take my mothers 1999 XC AWD (yes, 1999) up our snow-covered driveway of about the same grade multiple times every winter...if it is viscos you need to give it at least some gas. When it is really bad I hit the gas and the rear goes tail-out M3 style so the power definately gets back there. It has never gotten stuck. That XC looked more like what happens when I try to take my S40 up the same driveway when it is snow covered.

Re: proof our AWD system is inferior. (024tnfi)

Hi, I'm new at the Forum so could you please tell me more about "18" Pegs". I'm intrigued. Thanks. Oh, I have a 2006 XC70.
