At certain moments it can the difference between a trip to the body shop or just an elevated heart rate and sweaty palms. Good lighting is invaluable for safe driving and Volvo, known for its safety innovations, has incorporated their bi-xenon lamps into several models since 2002.
Full Story

Re: Project V70R: European Bi-Xenon Headlight Upgrade ([email protected])

My biggest grip comes from the Low Beam performance, in terms of distance or length of the beam. It seems very short, especially when travelling at high rate of speed. Any suggestions? And what can one expect from the new Euro lights, what's difference btw the US factory ones.

Are regular S60 Bi-Xenon's compatible? What about the other way around, can R headlamps work on regular S60s?

Re: Project V70R: European Bi-Xenon Headlight Upgrade (R_Rated)

Too bad they finally came out with a projector beam setup for '07 which is far superior to the reflector models you guys installed...but either way, a certain improvement over the N.A. versions.

The price has gone up considerably since I purchased them from Kelly.

Quote from Full Story:
"There is probably a U.S. regulation somewhere that requires Volvo to deactivate the supplemental high-beam found in equivalent European units, which may explain the difference."
I doubt that, as my 2005 Lexus LS430 has Xenon Low Beams with supplemental halogen high beams. Both Xenon and Halogen work together on the High Beam setting. For DRLs, high beams are on at greatly reduced power, which explains why they look a yellow/amber color during the day.
I wonder why Volvo didn't just program the European halogen high beams to run at 1/2 power for DRL use in North America?
