Dam, now NA has NO small cars to offer! Maybe we should all start buying Volvo Trucks!

Thanks for the link, I figured this would happen sooner or later. I hope Volvo will bring something like the C30 stateside again.

Maybe they will offer the V40/XC40 starting in May/June as a 2014 model?

But Volvo needs to replace the C30 and C70 for the NA market.

I don't get Volvos logic on a lot of things the past few years (I blamed Ford for a long time) but we're back to those great days in the mid 80s again where there were no 2 door volvos in the states, and the pickings were 2xx or 7xx and too bad.

Not that I don't like the choices now... but with the world being all about 100 different choices, limiting yourself to basically 3 models seems pretty dumb. They need a large coupe and a small compact family (at a reasonable price).

Sorry, all my brothers and sisters who have C30's... enjoy them. It may be a while before another spark of cool like them comes along...

What the hell is Volvo thinking....? Everyone is downsizing and they're the only ones upsizing.

Canada better get the V40 when it's released...

Well the XC40 is coming for sure, and rumors have it that the V40 as well. There's also a possible name change to V40 Cross Country from the original XC40 naming convention, more proof that the regular V40 could make it over. Discontinuing the C30 only means that they are going to replace it. Relax guys.

The first C30 was introduced in 2006, it's a 7 year design with 2 cosmetic refreshes, even though it doesn't look like it, but it's time for a sucessor. Just look at how many Golf platforms have changed vs the C30.

The V40 will never come here. Nor will the cross country variant. We may see an XC30 SUV, but otherwise we'll probably be waiting until everything is on the Scalable Platform Architecture before small vehicles return to the US.

Where are you getting your info? A number of dealerships here in Canada are already buzzing about the XC40. In the meanwhile, there's already has been a number of spyshots of these cars on NA roads.

Thats actually the V40 Cross Country not an XC40.
They've denied their biggest market some great products
That RWD X1 is really looking better and better since options for small hatchbacks/wagons aren't that good nowadays with the C30 going out, Mk VII GTI and F56 Mini Cooper S still a year or so away, Juke NISMO a few more months, Q3 not announced when its coming, A3 sportback still in question for a return, etc, etc.

You do realize that Cross = X + Country = C? right?

Canada =/= USA. For the C30, we were able to choose between the 2.4 and T5 for example. USA had only T5 when it was released.

A better example would be the Mercedes B class. We both see it a lot in Canada, but that vehicle is not available in the USA. At least not until the coming generation.

Maybe Volvo is going to offer two different vehicles? XC40 like XC70, XC60, and XC90, then there's gonna be a V40 Cross Country meaning just basically V40. Like how A4 is called A4 Avant?

Doubt it, V40 Cross Country to me = XC 40. See 1997's V70 XC which then evolved to become XC70 in 2000-2001.

Audi Avant = Wagon, which in Volvo nomenclature = V = Vagn (Wagon in Swedish) and also interpreted for the number 5 for the number of doors.

All of the articles I read about the V40 variants revealed at the Paris show said (paraphrased) "Volvo will not be bringing these to North America, either." If they meant the US I guess I was misinformed.

The rumor mill has been churning out comments about the possibility of another small SUV under the XC60 for a couple of years now. Rumors indicated we're more likely to get that than the V40 even back when the V40 was first unveiled.

They just brought the MY2013 C30s over, and now they're discontinuing it?
They are ending production. They believe they have enough stock to continue selling through this coming year. I'm thinking the Polestar limited edition vehicles may have been the last 250 built.

Hi

Calling it the V40 Cross Country ties it to the earlier V70 Cross Country which later became the XC70.

Suggestion: that's because the name XC40 is needed for the new small SUV.

In a number of interviews, Volvo staff (Doug Speck, about a year ago) and others spoke of Volvo's interest in the segment below the XC60. That looks positive for an XC40.

A counter to this though is an interview at the Paris Motor show with the Volvo HQ V40 Market manager (published first in an Australian magazine) saying the XC40 variant wasnt coming and for now the market needs to have the V40XC for now. A compromise.

Shame if the XC40 isnt on the way....

Maybe 7 years away

Yeah but Volvo did decide they'd play some word games and not put the "XC" label and put "Cross Country" to somehow make it different when it clearly isn't. ITs been discussed on the V40 forums how they decided to play word switcheroo to not market the thing in NA.

VCNA is just as stupid as it can be really.

The XC70 could easily go back to the V70 XC soon, and Volvo may reserve XC for SUV and crossovers only. Or, the current V70 may even go away and a V60 XC could be released? Who knows.

There is no current V70, it was discontinued since 2011.

Secondly, Volvo doesn't have that many current models or chassis to build cars to begin with. I'm not sure of what you mean by an XC40 if it's not based on the V40, and if it's not the V40 XC, where they will pull out another platform/model to fill this gap that you speak of.
Thirdly, XC or Cross Country, it's really the same thing. Whether it's marketing or branding that they choose, I don't think it's that hard to conceive that there isn't much of a difference.
