I have a problem with the heat i my car. It will barely heat when i have it on full. It does change between cold and warm when i turn the button on the CCM. Ive come to a conclusion that my heater core was clogged because the pipe in was hot while the one out was neither warm or cold. I flush the heater core twice and i flush the coolant once. But the pipe going out is still not hot enough. When i flushed the car got slightly hotter on the inside.
Thansk for any answears

Since the heater core is buried under the dashboard, and located behind the radio, and also behind the ventilation control panel, it is very difficult to gain access to this part. If you are considering removing this part, then you might also consider replacing the fan motor, because these can fail as well. I have not yet done this, but I am considering it. My heat works OK, but just enough to be acceptable. It does not get that cold where I live, in Fort Worth, Texas. This is a problem where gaining access to the part is more difficult than actually replacing the part.

The heater core tends to plug up on these cars. I replaced mine around 150k miles. The heat will get warm, but never hot. It's not horrible to do, just some contortions required. Getting the tube clips back in is a pain.

I flushed it two times and it got hotter in the car but i will try to flush with chemicals and let it sit for 30-60 minutes to take all the dirt and rust in the heater core and hopefully have a more comfortable temperature. If not i will replace it because it gets to -15 degrees celsius with me in Norway. And i will consider replacing the fan motor at the same time.

Thanks for responding btw.

My car has gone about 270k km which is roughly a fraction more than yours but i will first try to flush it with chemicals and let it sit for a while then empty it and refill with coolant. If it doesnt get hot enough i will replace it. What tube clips did you struggle with, where are they located?

Thanks for responding

The coolant tubes that come through the firewall connect to the heater core with metal clips. Easy to pry out. Harder to put back in due to the confined space under the dash.

Definitely metal on '07. I also recommend replacing them when doing the heater core.

I got the Behr heater core from FCPEURO and it was nearly identical to the OEM part.

Overall, the S60 has one of the easiest heater cores that I've even done. Possibly even easier than the 240.

The OP’s problem is the heater core and trust me no amount of flushing is gna get the gunk out. I just did this job and it only took about 1 hour and 45 minutes and was the easiest heater core I’ve ever seen!

The clips are indeed hard to get back in but just working with it and they’ll go in.

Op just watch a YouTube video and go from there, it’s easy.!

Those are plastic with mine and was easy to take off, i have a 2006 model.
No, not on the firewall in the engine bay. The PITA metal clips are at the heater core, which is under the climate control and next to the gas pedal. To change the core, you have to de-couple the gas pedal, remove the sensor and still wiggle is all around while doing your best to not damage the core fins too much. I haven't done mine although I have had a new uninstalled core for over a year and that is why. I plan to remove the driver's seat as well when the job comes up.

Also, what coolant is in the car? I have only ever had the OE Pentosin blue/purple stuff. The green ethylene-glycol will speed up the corrosion process. My core is still clear as far as I know. I am going to change it b/c I can smell a bit of antifreeze in the vents when I have the heat turned up, so I know there is a very small amount of coolant that has leaked out and is on outside of the core somewhere, as it doesn't smell when the blend doors bypass the heater.

All that isn’t NECESSARY! This job is way easier than you’re thinking. Decoupling the gas pedal?’What? Not even close. This is a two hour job TOPS

How much temperature difference between the inlet and outlet is normal? Mine has about a 10°F difference, and I have the same issue (low heat output).

I use red longlife coolant in my car but i might get a new heater core if it wont help to flush it with chemicals, and considered how easy it is to replace it i might just do it anyway, and i dont think i need to take the pedal off.
