For the M56 or M66 I would stay with the Volvo fluid. I think it
is hard to find by others in that it is sythetic GL-4 where all the modern
gear oil by Mobile1 is Gl-5 and not recommend for GL-4 application

I would say about 35k on a daily driver m56 or m66, more on a race car

60K would be too late. Do not let the evil "lifetime fluid" maintanance corporations tell you to keep sheared down, dirty, metal shaving filled milkshake sause in the gearbox until 60K

Maybe when I said 35K that is a bit early but when you use fresh oil things
tend to shift nicer and smoother so it is ok for me and worth it.

From what I have been told 40-45 K and it is worn down and spent

I know many people who do their Bimmer or Porsche gearbox at 20K. Gearbox problems are not fun and very expensive
