Does anyone here have more info on the PremAir option that comes in our cars? All it says that it is a coating on the radiator that transform ground air into oxygen.
its like a cat on the outside of your car. as smog from the car infront of you passes over the radiator there is a chemical reaction that is similar to the one occuring in your cat.

Is that a dead cat or alive one?

PremAir is a catalytic coating applied to the surface of the radiator.
Whenever ground level ozone (a cause of smog) in the air passes through the coating it is converted to oxygen and released back into the environment.
PremAir was originally fitted as standard at launch but has found its way on to the options list where it will seldom be chosen as it costs $$$. A shame really.

PremAir®
Ground-level ozone is formed when nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons generated by traffic and other sources are exposed to sunlight. Together with other photochemical oxidants in the air, the ozone forms what is commonly known as smog. The problem is greater in the summertime, particularly in the world’s major cities.
Volvo Cars was the first car maker in the world to commercialise the technology known as PremAir®*. PremAir® is a special catalytic coating that is applied to the radiator and converts ground-level ozone into pure oxygen as the car is driven. Studies have shown that up to 75 percent of the ozone that passes through the radiator is converted into oxygen in this way.
http://www.engelhard.com/Lang1...4/Up1
Re: slightly OT

The other day I noticed that some of those air cleaners that sell in The Sharper Image now incorporate PremAir "filters" to reduce the ozone generated by them... To be frank, I'm not sure that the filters in these cleaners worked at all because the ozone stink could be felt long before approaching the devices.
Let's hope our radiators work a bit better...
