I have a 98 c70 with 172,000 miles on it and I'm starting to have problems with the power steering. When the car is warm and I make any sort of left or right turn while driving I hear a moaning sound coming from the power steering or rack and pinion. Any thoughts?

Would changing the fluid do anything to solve the problem?

If so, how do you change it? There doesn't appear to be a drain plug on the pump?

If not, does it sound like its time for a new pump or a new rack and pinion?

Thanks!

Re: Power steering pump or Rack and pinion? (PM)

If you do anything with the fluid make sure you don't mix the old red fluid with the new green fluid. They are not compatible and make react.

I mixed the two and my rack bled thru and I had to go for a new rack. Not certain if the fluid mix was the cause but pretty coincidentle.
