I finally took in my car after failing to identify where my power steering leak was occurring. It turns out it is leaking at the rack, which I was crossing my fingers and knocking on wood would not be the case. I read this happened to at least one other fellow SSer. I am pissed, but it doesn't seem that there is anything I can do except have the shop replace the entire rack. Or is there something else?<p>My local indy place is going to do it for $1,500. I think I read $1,800 was what the other guy had to pay, so this seems like a fair price. The guy mentioned that the DSTC upped the price a good amount. Awesome, because I love the DSTC!!! (Sarcastic)<p>I'm posting for three reasons... First to rant. Thank you for reading. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vortexmediagroup.com/images/banghead.gif" BORDER="0"> Second to make sure there are no other alternatives. Third, after I get this fixed I'm putting this thing up on autotrader to sell. I love driving the car and I will miss it, but I'm fed up. Driving an R without a warranty is like living in LA and experiencing a tremor. Every time something acts up you're fearing it's going to be "the big one." I'm $1,500 in the hole and I probably still owe about all I will be able to get for the car on the open market. That is a hard pill to swallow but it is time to end this Relationship. I'm not going to stick around and wait for the AWD or suspension or you name it to break and be bent over with another huge repair bill. I am very disappointed with the quality of these Volvos.

I just cannot imagine how the DSTC makes it that much more expensive to replace other than maybe the rack is specific to R models.<p>If that is the case i'd source a used one, and install it yourself if your're inclined enough to do so.

I had to have the rack and PS pump replaced recently. The car had ~ 27K miles.<p>Luckily, it was all replaced under warranty. But the total bill was about $1600 <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/eek.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>I have the Volvo VIP warranty, and its good for another 2.5 years. I think i'll wait to see what else expensive breaks, if anything before decliding what to do with it.<p>BTW, my '08 Corvette has been absolutely trouble free...I mean only oil changes. So may GM has finally gotten it right. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0">

Sucks man. I'm really excited that I get to replace my radiator sometime in the next year.<p>I drove the 960 all yesterday, and since BMW seems to be the only comparable car available like it anymore, thats where I may head next. Just keeping it simple. <p>Luckily, despite the issues i've had, I have mine about 90% paid off. Still, with the market being this bad, I don't even know if its worth selling it. Whats your mileage?
