is to fully turn off the DSTC. ive done this tonight with my 06 R in comfort mode and its very driveable. i went over bumps and manhole covers that would make me feel like im going everywhere but im not with DSTC turned off. i havent tried it out on the really big ones here yet but where i drove tonight i noticed a definate improvement, it fealt like i was driving in sport mode actualy. has anyone noticed or tried this out?

Re: possible solution to eliminate most of the sidehop... (sk11vengeance)

Wow I'm gonna have to try that out. Kind of a double-edged sword though, trading side-hop for a possible loss of traction. Trading one kind of instability for another.

I had the updated bushings installed and an allignment done recently and that helped a lot on our 04.

Sidehop? What sidehop? We don't got no stinkin' sidehop!
With PS2s and driving in Advanced all the time as I do I never experience sidehop and I tackle corners regularly.
What I don't do so much anymore is turn the anti-skid system off (I do set it to reduced as soon as I get in the car.) During my first 5k miles of ownership I turned the anti-skid off all the time. Of course I saw my first tread bars at 5k miles as well so I tend to not turn off anti-skid anymore.

From what erveryone here says the sum upgrade stinks so Im glad they didnt do it.

Re: possible solution to eliminate most of the sidehop... (sk11vengeance)

I'm with Rollie on this one--getting rid of the stock Pirelli's and going with PS2 or other quality tires (I've also had good luck with the Turanza LS-Z all season tires) is a major improvement. Also keeping the car in sport mode rather than comfort will help. The roads are pretty good around here (which obviously helps) and now that I no longer use the Pirellis and keep it in sport I can't even remember the last time I felt a side hop.

PS2's helped for a while. Much better than worn Pirelli's. But after a few thousand miles the sidehop came back.
I'm usually in sport, almost never in comfort.
I hope some more people try turning DSTC off and see if it helps them too.
I'm talking about some bad roads....NYS Thruway, Rt 17 to Paramus, Rt 4 and the Taconic Parkway. Nasty stuff. Car normally gets bads hop and also really really slams over the bumps. DSTC off? MUCH more relaxed over bumps.
Why does this work?
Thanks for the suggestion!

Is the chassis so uncontrollable that DSTC is needed to make it safe? The answer to this should be an obvious "no", provided that folks don't try besting Schumacher's time on public roads.
We're nearing the point of dependency on technology. A few toys are nice, but I'm sure that (especially) R owners would identify with the simple pleasure of driving a car under their complete control.

I'm never going to need it in the dry unless I'm really pushing. And if I was pushing that much, I'd be on a track in which case I'd turn it off anyway.
Besides with the DSTC off the car is more stabe and controlable, reducing the need for it in the dry!
