Possible problem with the 850 Turbo wagon

My dad had the car in park, and I noticed that the RPM's would drop below 1,000 for a quick second and then raise up past 1,000 for a second and then go back to normal, then do it all over again, I've heard of this problem before on another's car but I can't remember what was wrong, thanks guys
