I do not personally own a T6 XC90, but my parents bought one when they first came out in 2002. At the time, it seemed like a space ship with the pop-up GPS and all of the nifty features! I remember being eleven and wishing that I could sit up front to use the heated seats, and also shuffling between the second and third row on trips. Anyway, my parents still have it, and they are about to hit 400,000 miles! They have spent >$1000 on maintenace in 13.5 years, but I know that some people have had 4+ transmissions and many electrical issues. Has anyone else had a positive 03-05 XC90 T6 ownership?

Maybe we're just lucky. We also had a 2001 V70 XC that was problem free (bought it in 2000 and traded it for the XC90). :)

Purchased new 2004 T6. Great car for 156,000 miles, then transmission failed. Have to say we enjoyed T6. Great motor, everything still worked, but transmission, with no fluid leaks, when we sold it.

Wow - it's like a ghost town in this thread! I guess my parents are in the extreme minority.

Mine has 156,000 miles and on its 2nd transmission. 2nd trany has a similar rebuild comparable to triple edge. I'm planning on keeping it, hopefully i'll reach those mile your parents did. Now I just have to figure out why my AWD is not working. Overall I'm happy with it still...

So California, what kind of maintenance did your parents do? I just parted out a 2004 T6 with 235,000 miles. The transmission was replaced by the first owner at 121,000 miles, which is 9 months after they serviced it at 115,000 miles. I feel that if they had done the transmission services every 15,000 miles, the car would have still had its original transmission. The reason I parted it out is because the turbo seals failed and sent lots of oil through the chargepipe and into the engine. I feel that the turbos going out is the fault of the previous owner for not checking his oil or doing oil changes on time. I am thinking of getting another XC90 and was considering the T6 because they are cheaper.

They have a good independent Volvo mechanic who did all of the scheduled maintenance on it. They were probably just lucky, but I would not rule out a T6 completely. If money is an issue, I would get an XC70.
