Alright so those of us who have portable GPS devices in our cars (and I know there should be a few of us), let's see some pictures on where you placed them in your car.
I just got a portable GPS device and now I'm trying to figure out where to place my in a nice discreet place. Pictures?

I didn't want it placed in the middle of the windscreen, so I mounted it in the left corner ... aside to the steering wheel.
thought about hardwiring it into the center console, but this might be a bit tricky...

I'm in Cali, so nothing on the windshield. I have gotten dash mats for both my GPS and radar detector. The radar detector goes in the middle while the GPS goes between the radar detector and driver's seat. Both are kept in the glove compartment when not in use. I already have wires for them hard wired into the car and come out of the front center speaker grill so I do not keep the wires and they do not cause a mess.

I just put in near the A-pillar and ran the cable down the side, underneath the steering wheel, and then up to the center console 12v ACC plug. Within arms reach so i can use the touch screen but doesnt hinder my sightline either.

exactly what I did with mine... it's the easiest way to run the cable discreetly.

I put mine in the center, as low as it will go, but it's not very convenient to reach. Not that I should be pushing buttons while driving, but I do anyway. The power wire is just long enough to reach from the rear seat plug.

Re: (S40Racer)

Ive installed those Garmin kits before. Im on the fence about them. I didnt mind the ones that have the center speaker because if for whatever reason you wanted to remove the GPS all you need is a replacement cover.
I had to install a kit on a S80 with no center speaker so i drilled out there dash. Even warned the customer before hand and still wanted it in. So now he has 4 holes in his dash and a GPS that can never be removed

Re: (skwirl)

Yeah, I don't think that I would ever have done it if I didn't have the premium audio... but I also don't think I would have purchased any portable system because I can't deal with wires all over the place...

I stuck the plastic disk that came with my GPS (nuvi 660) on the center speaker, right where the OEM Garmin would have been, and attach the unit to the disk...it's stays tight and is much easier to reach than when mounted to the center of the windshield.
