Just got down from a mountain drive this weekend and through some events have found my upper torque mount to be shredding. So, naturally I want to replace it w/ the poly piece, but I'm an extremist and am now considering replacing the upper mount and the tranny mount assembly with poly (viva or IPD), and also tighting up the 'strut brace' upper bar w/ the solid pieces from Quickbrick.
Understandably it will get tighter and everyone has a disclamer about vibrations, so who here has this and says the change is worth it and bearable?
My 01 na just hit 120K miles (w/ auto), so is this too tight?
And out of the company's offering these poly bushings who's got the best product for the price? (I can only find the solid bar mounts @ quickbrick)

since you have an auto, you probably wouldn't want to get poly upper AND the QBM strut bar conversion.
choose one or the other..
i have all three on my manual and they arent TOO bad.
I think the perfect combination would be a volvo square mount and the qbm conversion..
solid bar mounts are also available at vivaperformance.com

Re: poly/solid mounts??? is there too much? (spiked60)

Impulse is right -- QBM conversion plus poly upper mount will vibrate a lot in an auto. Maybe a poly upper mount and poly bushings for the upper crossmember the upper mount bolts to? That would be tighter than stock but not as 'noisy' vibration-wise as the proposed setup.

Re: (Impulse922)

Evolve sells a black top mount that is softer than IPD's. I switched to that because there was too much vibration for my tastes

Re: (jstro)

thanks much for the replies, I agree with everything I've heard.

Definately going w/ the upper mount since mine is breaking (and the black Evolve sounds best for my wants).
If anything for the cross bar, it'd be the bushings - not solid mount.
Figure if I want a strut bar I'll get an actual strut bar (and keep the motor out of the equation).

If you go poly bushing and the QBM conversion (which by the way is not a strut brace at all...just merely making the engine mount even tighter), you will experience a lot of vibration, especially at idle. I am very tolerant of that kind of stuff and tightening that up was too much for me. I went back to the OEM setup and kept the poly bushing in. It's nice

I have both the IPD upper bushing and a homemade solution to make the torque bar mount pretty solid. There is a noticeable increase in vibration and a little more noise at idle, but it doesn't bother me. I also have an auto and I think that both fixes work just fine and make for improved throttle feel, especially in slow corners. I really hated the occasional delay between adding throttle and engine/transmission response.
Bob S.

Automatics will vibrate like hell at idle.
Go with OEM Volvo mounts and install poly strut bar bushings.
They really help and the vibes are still low to non existent

I have the QBM strut bar conversion kit and OEM Volvo mounts, and my car very smooth and very quiet.
