Hi guys
A friend of mine is getting me a K&N and since I've always heard about problems with the oil in these and our sensitive MAFs, I'm trying to see what the risk is, if it's worth using it.
Share your story, good or bad, and mileage with filter.
TIA
ps - Those of you that had to replace the MAF - did you try to clean it first?

No Problems if properly oiled. Have an old filter ready when your going to clean the K&N. After cleaning I let my dry in a paper towel for a day. No Problems after 35k miles

Re: (juve021)

When I first got the K&N I took it out of the plastic and aired it out for a few days as a precaution - no issues to date

I also run a high flow conical-style filter, but it's dry, so I wouldn't expect any issues with MAF malfunction.

Re: Poll For Those With High Flow Airfilters (S60R1)

A new MAF sensor will run you about $250. If I were you I'd spend your money on the IPD intake system (non-oiled filter) and eliminate the risk.

IMHO failure of MAF is another myth, if done properly, not soaked in oil it will not damage MAF. So far 35 votes , 1 failure

Re: Poll For Those With High Flow Airfilters (s140s)

I've been using K&N filters for over 20 years. ZERO problems.

As someone else posted, MAF's ain't cheap, though IIRC I've found some as cheap as ~$150, but still not something I want to replace as often as an air filter.
I've used K&N in past as well. I don't want to be rude to my friend so I'll use it, but I'm gona dry it up a bit for a couple of days before, juuuust in case
Thanks for the votes guys!

Made it 54000 before the MAF gave up, I like the DIY cleaning idea, seen here on the forum.

Re: (GrahamsV70R)

You wont need to clean the MAF unless you oil the poop out of the filter. 120,000 miles frequent cleaning of the filter with original MAF.
