So I just traded my 2015 V60 RDesign wagon in on a 2017 XC60 Inscription. I picked up the car last night and noticed this morning it has a polestar emblem on the back. It is a T5, FWD model. While I know you can add polestar tunes to a non polestar vehicle, is it possible the polestar tune can be also added to a T5?

Honestly. I really didnt notice much of a loss of acceleration over my V60, the XC60 was rather spry, but obviously handling is a bit less, but also is the harsh ride is a bit less.

Is there any way to tell if the car does have the tune? Can it be checked without going to dealer. Not sure is the original owner got the tune or was a poser. Bought it CPO from Volvo dealer.

Can polestar be added by third party or is it strictly a dealership install...? Also any other tunes out there?

I believe the Polestar tune is available for both the T5 and T6 from the dealer. It’s simply a software upgrade. I had it added at port on my S90 T6, but in some ways, I have no idea what improvement I gained as I have no reference point. In some ways, I regret it, as the S90 is t exactly a canyon carver.

As mentioned above, Polestar optimization is available for the T5.

This software is not available to anyone outside the Volvo network.

I understand you are asking if Polestar tuning was actually installed versus the owner just applying the Polestar badge. I believe you can enter the VIN on the Polestar website to see if has been registered. If not, you can send them your VIN and they will get back to you after several days with the answer.

As others stated it can be added to the 2017 T5 engine. But the only gain is in torque. You do not see any gain in horsepower with the T5.

The software can be checked with a registered version of VIDA (dealer), but would need a competent tech to find it. I’ve been having this runaround with my local dealer, trying to verify that my R-Design wasn’t overwritten. Instead of checking VIDA, they just tell me it “seems to have more power than a regular T6” ...

Have you driven the T6 without the tune? I’ve had a few loaners that have had the non-tuned T6 and to me at least there’s a noticeable difference.

Once. Had a brand new 2014 T6 as a loaner in March ‘14. So not really recent enough to compare to my R-Design, which I just purchased in July of last year. Remember the standard T6 was pretty peppy, but again, couldn’t do a side-by-side...

My only point was, it seems it’d be easier (and more conclusive) to check VIDA vs. butt dyno comparison. This came up because I felt the car lost some power after Service 2.0 software upgrades in October. After reading several other threads (some here on SS) describing the same feeling after 2.0, it had me wondering if it was somehow reverted back to standard T6 SW.

Thanks,

Joe

I now realize when I added the Polestar tune why I received a numbered certificate. It did not seem important to me at the time. But if I ever sell the car, it can mean something.

I got a Polestar tune last week. I got the badge, but no numbered certificate. Overall, I'm extremely happy with it.

I had the Polestar tune added to my S90 at port...so I’ve always had it, so no before/after comparison.

But here’s a dumb question that my dealership couldn’t answer: I noticed later that the dash actually displays “Polestar” but only when I switch to Dynamic mode. Does that mean the tune is only active in that mode?

p.s. I can’t stand Dynamic mode...it’s too aggressive regarding holding gears for normal driving (around town).

The polestar tune is always active, but the change in transmission logic is only in Dynamic/Polestar modes.

You are correct for 2017-2018 year S90 T6 which only shows Polestar in the dash.
