Polestar Performance optimizes the power and torque in your Volvo. It makes the car more lively and fun to drive and increases safety in situations where you need extra performance, such as when passing. All this without increasing fuel consumption or affecting your Volvo's Original Warranty.

New Polestar products for Volvo models equipped with the 2.5T (2006 and newer) and the previous T6 engine (2010 XC60 and 2009-2010 XC70).

Volvo is about to announce the upgrades soon. We expect pricing to be $1,295 for 2.5T, $1,495 for T6

Womp womp, no S80 T6 coverage. Oh well. Is the 2009 XC70 T6 engine different than the 2007+ S80? I thought they were the same and the newer T6 didn't come until 2011 or something.

I have been informed that due to different technical specifications they are unable to upgrade North American S80s.

It was frustrating to hear the S80 could not receive a Polestar tune. A S80 R-Design with the tune and a tighter suspension would be a fun to drive full-size sedan.

I thought the S80 with the Yamaha engine already was pumping out 311 hp and 325 lbf·ft with sophisticate advanced electronics. Could be that Yamaha might already have a performance chip for the 3.2-litre straight six or the 4.4-liter V8 that Polestar can't use because of intellectual property rights.

More details from Volvo/Polestar would be nice on why the EUCD S80 T6 is being skipped - "technical specifications" is very vague. It makes me wonder if there is some inherent weakness/short coming the EUCD S80 has that the other EUCD T6 powered cars don't.

The S80's front rotors are smaller, in diameter, therefore could be more prone to fading with the extra power.

While still VERY odd to me that the S80T6 isn't offered any sort of power upgrade from Polestar I'm gad that they've made more performance upgrades for more Volvos. :D Who knows, maybe they'll one day offer power upgrades for the 1997-2000 T5 models! One can hope!

I know I have said it countless times but I think Volvo is missing out on sales (and a chance to focus/tweak its image) by not offering an R-Design or better S80 with upgraded brakes and suspension etc. The S80 variants they are selling currently certainly aren't bringing many people into U.S. Volvo dealerships.

Official release went out today:

Volvo Announces Extended Availability of Polestar
Performance Software Packages

Upgrade Now Available for earlier T6 and 2.5T engines

ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (Oct. 31, 2012) - Volvo Cars of North America (VCNA) announced today factory-authorized performance tuning software for several earlier Volvo models is now available at Volvo retailers across the country.

The Polestar performance tuning software is now available for the following models:

T6 Engines - 281 HP to 311 HP
XC60 MY 2010
XC70 MY 2009-2010

2.5T Engines -- 208 HP to 237 HP
S60 MY 2006-2009
S80 MY 2006
V70 MY 2006-2007
XC70 MY 2006-2007
XC90 MY 2006-2007

Polestar tuning software delivers quicker throttle-response, more torque and more horsepower for an enhanced driving experience. The added power does not affect certified fuel economy, as the efficient tuning of the engine only increases the power output when it is needed.

The T6 Polestar software brings the two carlines to 311 HP and 354 lb.-ft torque, while the 2.5T brings the five carlines to 237 HP and 273 lb.-ft. The Polestar software carries a MSRP of $1,495 and $1,295 respectively.

Collectively, the Polestar performance software package is now available for the following carlines:

Standard
XC60 T6 R-Design MY 2012-2013
S60 T6 R-Design MY 2012-2013

I have an 06 C70 and noticed it is nowhere to be found on the attached list. Is there a reason for this?

And what makes you think a S80 with Brembo's or suspension will sell more? It doesn't sell in volume now even though being a great car for the money. Your barking up a tall tree my friend.

That is a car that I would buy in a second.

Is there a difference between the USA rotors and those in Sweden, Germany or Mexico? Because all of those markets can get a Polestar flash for a 2013 T6 Automatic S80.

Mexico is part of North America. The polestar flash is available for the 2013 T6 S80 in Mexico.
