hi, my 2005 2.0 s40 D has recently gone nuts.. i bought it from a 2 months ago with 107K on the clock, and since has had an intermittent problem that the revs will only go to 3000 rpm (asif the turbo isnt kicking in)
this is the least of my worries!
more recently the power has cut off completely whilst driving (it has done this three times) with ABS light showing, and displaying Anti Skid Fault : Please stop safely, and Brake Failiure please stop safely.
when it does this on one occasion the wipers go mad and i cant turn them off, wont let me put the hazard lights on or anything! wont let me rev the engine at all the power just cuts completely..
i managed to get it going the next day and take it to a local garage, they put the diagnostic equipment on and it shows no fault?? the guy checked all the brakes, abs censors and all that and he says it should be fine..
so since then ive taken it back to the place i got it from and insisted it gets sorted out, but they come back with "if it doesnt show a fault, theres nothing wrong with it"
the cars a potential death trap cutting all power whilst driving and leaving me stranded until it decides to work again.. Please help

Is the power issue potentially a bad MAF sensor? My sister's Jetta had this recently and sounds similar to what you say. I also think it didn't throw a code for some reason. Maybe start there?

Hi possibly? i have been told its maybe going into limp mode? so it stops you from driving it incase the fault causes a crash? i bought a volvo because they are reliable cars, but seem to have started off on the wrong foot!

Re: Please Help! S40 with a mind of its own (Phil_liv)

Could it be the battery? I know weird things start happening when the battery starts to go.

make sure the battery's voltage is good AND stable.

I too would assume it's the battery, fault codes get reset after disconnecting the battery so that can explain their absence. I would replace it ASAP, also check the electrodes and harness for paly, oxidation and such.
