Re: Planes, trains, and automobiles... (William)

I visit Miniatur Wunderland every time I'm in Hamburg, it's just that cool. Plus the area where it's located is in the old customs-free zone ("Kehrwiederspitze"), which is where lots of old coffee, tea, and other warehouses were located. Just across the street is a really nifty spice museum, which would be a good place for ladies to visit while the men marvel at the model railroad. It's also within a short walking distance to the new Hamburg symphony building, which has an iconic water-motif design to its top floors that is destined to become a landmark like the Sydney opera house.

All in all, Hamburg is a great city to visit time and time again. Take a boat tour of the harbor for incredible up-close views of ships from all over the world, plus the gigantic Rohm+Haas drydocks. Downtown Hamburg (just a short walk/train ride from the harbor area) has two large "ponds" (small lakes really) with lots of opportunities for great people watching and, yes, German beer.
