I've been reading through some of the reviews but haven't come across how this car compares to its competition in the area of performance.
Also, what kind of gas mileage does the T5 produce?
thanks,
chris
The sticker on my new T5 says 20/27 with
regard to gas mileage---we'll see. As far as performance, some of Indy's posted articles
cover performance from various test drives.
Some key items are not stated in the Volvo brochure. I saw a T5 spec with it doing 0-60
in 6.6 sec and for the 2.4T, 7.7 sec. I
believe these were achieved with manual
transmissions. Looking forward to credible
reviews from MT, R&T, and C&D magazines
comparing 4-5 cars in this class. Oh, the
base and the 2.4T are generally published
at 21-22/29-30 on mpg.

I think that in general, in most reviews the S60 T5 has been doing 0-60mph in around 6.6 seconds. Motor Trend got 6.6 seconds and 14.9 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Volvo's actual number is 6.4 seconds for 0-60 mph. Check out the Volvo International site, they have most of the performance stats on all their cars. Hope this helps!
Volvo's Numbers: (100 km/h = 62.14 mph)
T5 - Acceleration 0–100 km/h,man/auto: 7.0/7.1 sec (preliminary data)
2.4T - Acceleration 0-100 km/h, man/auto: 7.6/8.0 sec
2.4 - Acceleration 0–100 km/h, man/auto: 8.7/9.6 sec
Fuel Consumption: (1 Gallon = 3.79 Liters)
T5 - Fuel consumption litres/100 km, mixed driving, man/auto: 9.3/10.3
2.4T - Fuel consumption litres/100 km, mixed driving, man/auto: 9.2/10.0
2.4 - Fuel consumption litres/100 km, mixed driving, man/auto: 8.7/9.4
-Drew

Maybe I'm too greedy, but I'm almost disappointed by these numbers. According to the listing in the back of Road & Track Magazine, the S70 T5 had 0-60 time of 6.1! I'm a bit new to Volvo, so I don't know if that # is accurate. With the additional 9 horsepower and "slightly" (sarcasm) more aerodynamic and rigid body, I would have thought the S60 T5 would be at least as fast (though I think its actually about 100 lbs [45kg] heavier).
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the S60 is plenty fast enough for me. Do any of you Volvo experts out there know whether the high pressure turbo engine performs better after breaking in?

the S60 has already set many land speed records in England (trying to remember the link) and stunned journalists in Canada when it tied (twice) the corvette Z06 in the passing test(approximately 50 mph to 75) @ 5.3 seconds!
If that's not enough, maybe the 300hp concept S60 will become reality.
