Alright, what you are about to read does not make sense. I know this, but I can't deny that it is happening. I don't expect an answer, but does anyone else notice this...<p>Basic schedule of warm car up in the morning, drive to work. Warm car up from work, drive home.<p>The drive home, every damn day, the car is a hot rod. Turbo spools and boosts incredibly well. In the mornings, the car feels like a dog. Its cooler in the morning, so it should be faster then!<p>Anyone else? I don't think its really mechanical, but its like clockwork. I have time tested at a certain straight area, and the car is literally faster on the way home. EVERY DAY. I am confuzzled....<p>Open to comments...

Downhill/Uphill is not in the equation. Its turbo related if anything. I can hear it in the afternoon... as in audibly and butt dyno more boost than in the mornin'. I let it warm up for the same amount of time, could it just be the warmer start in the afternoons?<p>It probably is the car being smart and not wanting to go to work. hahaha <p>About the response I expected. I warned you, defies logic. I just seriously can not tell myself its in my head anymore. Its happening! You're welcome to come drive me to work and home sometime=p <p>Its to the shop saturday anyway. I will have them check all the turbo related items.

How long are you warming the car up before driving this road?<br>Also, If you let the car sit overnight and don't drive it till the afternoon, do you get fast or slow results?

I let the car warm up for approx. 5 minutes at both ends. <p>If I do not drive until afternoon, it feels more sluggish. But I have not left for work later so I haven't gotten to test on the same roads.<p>The only time testing I can do is based on a stop watch which is probably a bit inaccurate as I am driving, but with hitting it as close as possible to 2 telephone poles, I note ~1 second difference from about over.... 300 feet?<br>Oil temps can really make a noticeable difference?

Using Royal 5w30..... read many threads on oils before choosing.<p>I may have noted a possible explanation today. There was a post a while back about A/C's causing increased "pep" for some people. Mine does this, but I notice a difference if I turn the motor over with the A/C on or off. It runs better if I have the A/C ON during a start - even if I then shut it off. This explanation works very well with my habits also. I will be interested to see what happens in the winter. This car has got me scratching my head all over the place. I feel stupid even posting this, but as I say above, its literally too noticeable to deny its happening anymore!

That's really intresting about the A/C setting, I have the same habit during my afternoon drive home and come to think of it the car always feels like a beast coming on to the highway, more so then the morning.

If you notice, the A/C doesn't actually kick in till a few seconds after start up, even if it's turned on at start up. This is probably to prevent unnecessary strain on the battery and starter motor. However, with the A/C on, it means the engine runs a bit faster with more load, so it could heat up quicker. I'm going to go with cold oil verdict too.

It may have nothing to do with it, but I recently found a performance gremlin that had been intermittently troubling me for months. A couple weeks ago when it got fairly cold, it finally got bad enough to throw a code, and I found it was the fuel pressure sensor. My Volvo guy told me a new TNN just came out about them, they're wearing out a lot more often than they should. At $300, I don't think I'd replace it on a whim though.

Thus I have a really spirited drive into the office.<p>However on the way home, it is 85 degrees, heat soak has set in, and the car is sluggish. Thought I would throw in some follow-up here.<p>To start, I had an excellent experience at a dealer today. I recommend Tasca Volvo to anyone in the RI / southern MA area. They truly took pride in the work and really wanted my car to be running at 110%. Multiple times did they bring me in to show me something. I ended up paying a few hundred less than I had expected, while getting more accomplished. A rarity, I know. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>Sparkplugs and FPS replacement fixed my hesitation/jerking issues <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthup.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>The plug replacement also HUGELY helped my boost levels. I can only assume misfires were causing my boost levels to drop mid-acceleration WOT, and then trying to come back up. Now its all smooooth <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>So I have not done the daily work commute yet, but I have much confidence that this servicing will, if not cure, greatly improve my performance woe's.<p>Time to enjoy the weekend <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/embeer.gif" BORDER="0"> <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/smile.gif" BORDER="0"> Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.
