Re: Performance air filters (bigtomhammer)

You don't want a foam/oil filter even if one is available.
A paper filter is much more effective at removing particulates from the air.
Sure, the flow may be less, but without a performance exhaust you aren't going to notice any horsepower increase anyway. In fact, how are you going to feel 1-3 horses (if you are lucky) in a 4,544-pound SUV with an automatic transmission?

Re: Performance air filters (bigtomhammer)

search the archives for posts from Mr. P. Some 3 years ago there was a huge discussion about this -- several folks went on about the "reality" of K&N air filters...

Do you think that a $49 air filter is really going to improve your XC-90?
If it did - don't you think they would ship them from the factory?

I bought an AEM Dryflow cone filter and custom made the plumbing to fit the OEM airbox....the main benefit is more power but also the filter does not need oil to function thus it won't ruin your mass air sensor...

Re: (Thomas)

I use the K&N drop in in my 2.5T, of course I don't feel any difference except in the long-term pocket book savings.
Have a look at the plastic air intake, mine was not formed well and was sort of bent closed at the opening. I put it over some heat and bent it open, that probably made more difference than the K&N filter.
(you have to remove the two bolts and lift if up to see it).
LTA
