Well Im currently shopping for an S60 R and several people have been apprehensive about them, mentioning that they've "heard" there are lots of electrical issues and that after 15-20k miles it "drives like a station wagon" (whatever the hell they mean by that).
Are they any special issues I should keep in mind when shopping for a USED S60R? It seems that the angle gear is a weak point on the car and some people have had minor issues with the computer but from what I've read its rarely been something a computer flash didn't fix.
It seems that most people are very happy with their R's but when Im looking for a car and several car enthusiasts tell me to be wary of the electrical issues, etc, it just gets me wondering am I investing in a doomed vehicle?
I love the R...have test driven several and think they look absolutely beautiful. I've always thought Volvo represented both safety and reliability. Hell I know several people that are still driving their volvo's with over 200k miles!
Just looking for some true opinions from actual Volvo owners. Thanks

Re: People keep giving me bad warnings about the R... (Tekk)

My V70R has been in for a couple of minor ssues but nothing major. I can live with that. It's an annoyance, sure, but that's probably with any auto maker. My S60R on the other hand, I lemoned, so go figure.
Remember, most of the people that are on SS share their problems and complaints with every one so it may seem that the R has a lot of problems. But there are a lot more people out there that are probably very happy with their cars. We are probably 1% (probably even less) of the entire R population.

We bought a used R. If your worried get one that has low miles and lots of warranty left. What the heck does driving like a station wagon mean? My wifes S60R just hit 25k miles and the only station wagon that drives like that is the V70R

Yeah its probably just them hearing about all the bad and none of the good. Seems to be people share all their troubles and none of the goodness. Like you said, though, its possible with any car For my SRT4, for example, there are tons of people that have blown tranny's and screwed their turbo where-as I and many others haven't had any issues besides the minor ones.
Anyone knowledgable of "upgrade friendly" dealerships out there in SoCal? Some of the used vehicles I've looked at have Evolve/IPD ECU upgrades on them and I wouldn't want the dealer to try and screw me on that one.
Im looking at 2004+ with less than 20k miles to purchase. Want as low mileage as possible

I have had all the standard issues with my S60R,
Axle Ping, Fixed
Brake Squeal, Fixed
Muffler vs. drive shaft, Fixed
Upper engine mount, Fixed
Creaking steering rack, Fixed
Shifter buzz, Fixed
Except for the drivshaft, everything was fixed under warranty.
One thing I have yet to experience is an electrical problem.

Re: People keep giving me bad warnings about the R... (Tekk)

Bought my car through Rusnak. Sales guys was great and worked with me to get a better price than Galpin. I live and work locally, so having Rusnak 5 minutes away is great. I have had my gripes about the service, but they seem to have gotten better. I have had a few things got wrong, but as it has been pointed out, every little isue that goes wrong is discussed on this forum.
The R is not a perfect car, but I wasn't willing to pay for perfection. I like the 4C and on some days I feel like driving in Advanced and some days I just cruise in Comfort. I haven't experienced the side hop issue or I just haven't figured out exactly what it is supposed to feel like.
Lately the car has not been very stealth for me, as I managed to rack up a few tickets, but that is what appealed to me in the neighborhood of BMW's, A4's, G35's, and M-B Kompressors.
I am just about to get the Evolve Power Package and have a dealer install. Once it happens, I will post.

Re: People keep giving me bad warnings about the R... (LA-s60r)

Yeah I actually contacted Evolve and they suggested Rusnak of Pasadena. A few others on this board have suggested going there too....unfortunately they dont have any 6MT's so maybe once I get my R I'll take her there for service

That's a load of bull. All the MTs at Rusnak tell me that Volvo is keeping a close eye on things like this. The regional rep is definitely not the friendly type when it comes to mods (heck, not even to my STOCK S60R) and will black flag the car. Take that has a warning when approaching SoCal dealers.
