Got a quote to replace the whole system for $ 1,064 US ,parts and labor. Does this seem like a resonable price

No, not even at full retail unless they're charging you $150 an hour AND charging you FULL flat rate.
Also there are tricks allowing you to not have to buy the large, very expensive tube and some dealers know this, yet they don't even offer this alternate way to help out a customer

It's an Indy shop, it did sound high so I told them I'm not going to do it, told them some bull that I'm going to just sell the car

They told me $435 for labor, he told me everything over the phone so when I go and pick the car up I'm going to get the list of a breakdown of everything they are charging for. Off the top of my head they are about $400 to high on their quote

If the labor is $400 where does the extra $600 come from?
Labor charge is not all THAT high but the parts are absurd
Buy your own kit and let them do the labor

From a quick glance that's like A 100-150% markup on parts. Definitely steep imo.

Edit: nearly 200% in some cases. **** that; that's highway roberry.

Just out of curiosity, which shop gave you that quote? There's a shop in Villa Park called A&R that specializes in Volvo, and they so grossly overprice parts and labor it's ridiculous. And they refused to install parts that I brought in, because they said "they couldn't guarantee them" even though they were blue box Volvo parts. Ridiculous.

I've been searching all morning and all I can find is people saying there are tricks, but no link or info on the actual tricks. Would you mind telling me about this? Looks like I'm needing to change my PCV system. IPD has a sale on their own aftermarket hose but it's out of stock, I can't wait three weeks to get my car back on the road.

Awesome thanks. I'm unemployed right now but I just blew my cam seal so I have to do this. Saving money anywhere is a big help.
