The passenger seat of my 97 855 is rattling. I tightened all of the bolts at the hip joint, but am still getting a rattle. This passenger seat folds flat (the one in my 95 didn't, but it also didn't rattle) so I think it may be to do with that. I folded down the seat and then put it back up to make sure it locked in place - still rattling. Has anyone traced this one down and solved it?

Re: Passenger Seat Rattle (855turbo95)

Mine rattles when no one is sitting in it, I tracked it down to the seat belt female fitting that is mounted onto the seat itself, I just move it around to a position where it doesn't rattle anymore !!!!!

Nope, I can put my hand on it and feel it vibrating and then I move it to where it stops, just a bit wear and tear I would think..

Re: Passenger Seat Rattle (JRL)

defenitely not the seatbelt and post. when i move the seat with no one in it, i can recreate the rattle (albeit at a slower frequency). So i know it's in the hip joint, but can't find the specific cause. I already made sure all the bolts i see at this area are properly tightened.

My driver's side used to do this...tightened down the large bolts holding the seat to the floor and it disappeared. Have you tried this on the passenger's side, or is it the rail itself, or the hip joint (whatever that is).

Terrible to get it caught in the red light in the door too...haven't yet, but waiting for the day my son slams the door on the seat belt appendage.

Re: Passenger Seat Rattle (855turbo95)

On my S70, the passenger's headrest will rattle when there's no one sitting in the seat. I've found that if I reposition the seat back such that it's a bit more reclined than most passengers would have it, that the rattle goes away. Since 95% of my driving is by myself, that solution works just fine.

OK.
There is a seat shoc (yes, that is what it's called) made for rattling/knocking
V &S 70 driver's seats.
My mechanic slightly modified one and installed it on my 850R. Worked like a charm, the seat now is a solid as a rock.
I can ask him in a few days, when I'm back on my feet, if it will work on a pessenger seat or if it's driver's seat specific.
The part does cost about $180 WHOLESALE, probably over $200 retail and there is about an hour's worth of work involved.
Do you still want me to ask and get you the part number?
I've fixed about 4 V70 seats, it does work but IS expensive
JRL

Re: Passenger Seat Rattle (JRL)

Thanks very much for the info and offer of your help, Jim, but for that $, I think I'll live with it for now. It's not intrusive with the radio on, so I'll continue to try and trace it down and see if i can get it taken care of for something like $30 or less.

You can try tightening up everything on the seats buy if it's a clunking sound it probably needs the shock
