I'm preparing to replace my front/rear rotors and pads. I also have a set of e-brake shoes and springs to swap in. I've been looking around for a procedure that applies to the xc-90. The closest I've found is : http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/how-to-replace-e-brake-pads.html

Does anyone have the procedure for the 2004 xc90 ?

Its just like any other drum brake replacement that I hate to do. I left it up to the mechanic but saw that you need to compress the small hold down springs and slide to one side to remove them. (some brands turn and pop off, but ours push and slide) After replacing them wiggle the complete assembly a bit so everything settles into its natural centered position, and assuming the adjuster on the cable hasn't been tightened you should be ready to mount the rotor again. Spin to see if you need to wiggle the assembly again to ensure there is no binding

As it turns out my e brake shoes are in perfect condition. After changing my rotors and pads, the squeal is gone.
