I rearely drive to work, but when I do I usually park in the garage. Today, I found a great street parking spot a block from the office. Granted I pulled out my bumper-bully from the trunk and hung it over the rear bumper and put a club on the steering wheel, but I still feel guilty about leaving the car on the street.
Any of you guys in big cities do the same and feel the same guilt? I mean I'm saving $12 by parking on the street, and we're in a recession!

Re: Parked on the street today.... (tomedkaz)

I had never seen a bumper bully before (had to google it). What a great idea, it's like a chastity belt for your bumper. That would have really come in handy when I used to park on the street in Philly.

Re: Parked on the street today.... (sh8kdwn)

I used to... then after having a few indentations on my bumper from other cars *attempting* to park and use the back of my car as an indicator that they have gone too far, I decided to keep my old car that I was going to sell to commute with... Both rear quarter and taillamps got swiped on that car.
I love the dopes who leave the bumper bully on ALL THE TIME and scratch their paint with it in lieu of preventing bumper gouges.

i would suggest NOT using a Club.
They can be defeated in a matter of seconds (literally) and some criminals find it a matter of pride to go after cars that have one.

I parked my car on the streets of Brooklyn every night for 6 months before we moved to Long Island. I used my Bumper Badger religiously and it worked like a charm. I now have a driveway and a garage (as per most homes on LI the garage is used for storage ) and my Bumper Badger lays in silent hibernation because when we go to the city or Brooklyn we take our '04 Honda CR-V.

Isn't using a bumper-bully an invitation for someone to not care as much when parking behind you?
I would never do such a thing, though just a thought since a lot of people don't give two sh*ts about cars.

My R lives on the street.
My wife's Civic was an idiot magnet. Car thieves tried and failed to steal it. I got in it one day, went to put the key in, and noticed the ignition was dangling from the wheel...guess they didn't figure out you have to put on the right turn signal to start the car...

the bumper buddy is a good idea...but what about the front of the car? it's probably in more danger from people backing into it while parking in a tight spot.

If I did have to deal with NYC I would have bought a beater car for parking and the roads. Glad I don't!

Re: (asdf)

Kids broke into our Saab 900 back in the '90s by jamming a screwdriver through the door and propping out the lock all in an effort to steal a stock radio that they couldn't figure out how to remove!!!
Of course, had the idiots opened the glovebox, they would have seen two little U-shaped tools that popped into the front of the radio and released the unit from the dash for for quick and easy removal. Instead, they busted the faceplate off and never took a thing (not even the cash in the ashtray). They caused A LOT of damage...and got nothing in return. I, on the otherhand, got VERY angry.
When the police were writing up their report, one of them said to me, "must have been done by kids...stupid ones, too...all you need to do to get into a Saab is to pop out the fixed glass in the door and pull the lock with your hand -- no need to break anything."

-Eric

When I visit my sisters in Manhattan, I usually leave the car on the street if I find a good spot. They live on the UWS, and safe street parking is relatively easy to find.
I have left Various A4s and our X5 on the street for 2-3 days at a time. No worries...

So the bumper will still get hit, it just won't leave a mark.
The rear corners are exposed and I have a feeling those will get scratched...but what can you do I guess...

yea...not many places outside of NYC will you find parallel parking....so the bumper bully was definitely a metro idea. In any event. when in the city, I try not to park on the street, my friend left his E500 on the street when we went to the office, upon walking away from it, someone got in a cab, swung the door open too wide and needless to say, yellow does not go well with silver and a fight ensued. My friend got the scratch paid for, but people who do not drive have no concession about other peoples cars. especially in NYC.

Parked in a garage today one of those park n locks in bklyn. Jerk off who parked next to me- Silver Lexus sc450, left a little silver paint on my drivers side door so I left a cracked window on his drivers side door. it was in a space for two and I parked my passenger side really close to the wall to prevent door dings from whoever parks next to me he pulls in nose first and parked so he had the ability to park pretty far from me he had at least 20 inches on the other side of him, I saw his car when I got there and just knew he hit my car cause of the long coupe doors he has. Inconsiderate bastard that he is, I was trying to be nice and not hog up two spaces for once and see what happens!
