I'm a Saab guy starting to shop for my first Volvo. I'm particularly interested in 2003-2004 V70 T5 wagons. Does anyone know the approximate production numbers for this model/MY? It seems there are dozens of 2001-2002 T5s which I'm looking to avoid.

The last wagon I had was a 2004 Saab 9-5, tuned for about 275HP, so the V70 T5 seems like a comparable choice. I've wanted to buy a Volvo for years so I'm really excited that the day is getting closer.

If anyone has a lead on a 2003-2004 T5, auto. (the trans. should increase the availability) please let me know. Mileage is less important than meticulous maintenance and I'm willing to travel anywhere in the continental US for the right car.

BTW - I've learned a great deal lurking around this forum for the past several months - looking forward to becoming an owner.

I'd try JRL (on this forum) - he can probably locate to your spec and save you a lot of time. jrl1194(at)gmail.com

Not on your life.
Maybe all of 100-150 2004 V70T5s were made, manual or automatic and fewer 2005s
I've NEVER seen one up for sale

The car has to be auto. My GF doesn't drive stick (yet) and I've got a Saab 900 for my fix. Also, rowing through the gears commuting in Chicago traffic gets old fast.

So, a 2003 might be the best candidate. Or a 2002 that has been babied and maintained to the letter.

JRL - what's the T5 auto. market like for 2003s? I'm happy to take this off the board and e-mail you if you prefer.

Since you don't want a manual trans, have you considered an 04+ 2.5t??

Lots more of them, and a reflash of the ecu will get you t5 performance.
I think that's a good suggestion. Is the turbocharger different between the 2004 2.5T and 2003 T5? If there's a more robust/better turbocharger on the T5 engine I may hold out.

I've seen one (1) in the past 2 years for sale, it was a POS with 180K miles.
They struggled to get 3200 at the auction for it
There just aren't any around. Very few were made after 2002 so I don't get to see them offered for sale.
A nice 2004-2005 2.5T is a nice car, do an ECU flash and it can be quick/
While (also) not all that many around for sale, there always are a few each week available
There is a killer white/tan 2004 V70 2.5T for sale in FL with 80K miles if you're interested

I had an '01 T5 and after 3 years of loving it, set out to upgrade to an '05 T5. Couldn't fine any at all. Really disappointing since the T5 is so much fun.
As JRL said, go for a nice '04-'05 2.5T and get a tune. You could also consider a V70R (AWD & 300hp stock) but then maintenance costs can be higher.

Not true, I showed you mine on Autotrader.com & you said JUMP & I did.
T.U., btw.

Sorry, I guess you meant at auction.

If you are willing to look at the 2.5T, you can go all the way to 07, and consider AWD as well. For power, spend $300 on a 16t that pops up in f/s here often & then get the tune.

In New Jersey? I was talking to them this a.m.
...and you didn't do what I told you to do.
Didn't I tell you 6 hours ago to put a deposit on it, work out the details later and that it wouldn't last long?

Not to rub it in but after being in the business for a while, as a customer you make the choice to buy it or someone else makes it for you.

I'll take care of it, promise.

Guys - give Leanne a break. She did learn a lesson, not to rush into a huge maybe situation on a car that has an undiagnosed issue and is over priced. Leanne did her research. For the issues that car had anything close to asking price was silly. Denton, for your sake I hope you can resolve the electro mechanical issue. Leanne spoke to the shop that maintained it and was well apprised of the issue and also the shop's candid admission that it had not been resolved. . Jim, everyone here respects your Volvo knowledge. That said, ease up a bit. We're all not wet behind the ears kids. I referred Leanne to you and she may well buy a car from you. I may well buy a car from you one day, but as I told you when we spoke on the phone back in August, your "sarcastic quips and I know all attitude" is wholly unattractive.

Leanne doesn't know everything about cars, but she also doesn't pretend to. That said, she's a very accomplished attorney - read that as wicked smart. She's feeling her way through and learning as she goes. That's what these forums are about right?

Jim - I KNOW you don't like being called out, but you get what you give. Get over it. Denton, if you don't want to rub it in, then don't. Be a gracious winner.

I know all about the issue and for something that may happen once in 6 months I don't consider that big a deal.
We had a nice chat on the phone
I also told her on the to call the dealer that minute we got off the phone to at least put a deposit on it, Leanne waited a bit too long.
She could always have backed out, it is a reputable dealer and returning the deposit would not have been an issue.
This was not a Volvo that comes along every day!
