Re: p0420 (kpsingh0)

the P0420 code states , "catalatic converter efficency beyond threshold" ......or something like that. My guess is because our cars are ULEV ,they are more sensitive especially removing the cat even with the spacer. Periodically (every few months) especailly in warm weather , I'll get the P0420 , I've got the ferreta dp w/race cat and spacer. w/o that spacer , I'd get this CEL daily.
I'd just reset (clear/erase) it . Looks like that spacer is doing something because w/o a cat that CEL would normally light up quick

while we are discussing spacers, should I buy the one IPD sells or is it just as good as any cheap one I can pick up for a few dollars?

I could definitely use one that is bent! If anybody can find one, relatively short and bent that would be phenomenal.

Not without taking the rear O2 sensor with it!
The thing you have to remember about the spacer trick is that you aren't actually fixing anything. You're simply tricking the rear O2 sensor into thinking there is less oxygen in the exhaust than there really is. So the ECU believes the CAT is doing its job, where really nothing has changed. Over time, things age, and the ECU commands different mixtures, etc. Codes can come back.
If the problem persists, you may need a new solution. A second spacer is probably a bad idea. You might want to consider a different location for the one you have - often the cat or DP will have other ports which you may want to try.
Tom.

Re: p0420 (kpsingh0)

I bought a spacer from ebay for about $9.50 + $5 shipping. It works fine. It's the long one piece one. The title was "Universal EVO WRX STI 350Z Rear o2 Oxygen Sensor Spacer".
The two piece spark plug defouler method does not work on our O2 sensors. Our O2 sensors are pretty wide and goes in deep.
