P0090 Code - Fuel Pressure Regulator Circuit?

I pulled this code (P0090) from my datalogger, but I'm not sure what the true Volvo definition of the fault is. The general definition online is that it is a fault with the Fuel Pressure Regulator Circuit. If this is the case, what might be wrong with my car and what do I need to replace? There have certainly been some odd things happening with my fuel pressure, sometimes it randomly spikes to 90psi or so then recovers to the normal 57psi.

The circuit involves the regulator, pressure sensor and pump. 04s are known to have high rates of defective fuel pressure sensors and in northern salt states the regulators are known to suffer from corrosion from being on the bottom of the car so if I were you I'd start my investigation there.

Thanks Stealthy. I just replaced the pressure sensor a few thousand miles ago, so I'm guessing it's the regulator. What does it look like so I can find it?
