Does a vehicle have to be delivered thru the dealer from which it was ordered? My closest dealers are each about an hour away, but niether of them seem to have any inerest in OSD vhicles; at least they haven't answered my e-mails.

quote:
Does a vehicle have to be delivered thru the dealer from which it was ordered?

Good question. I'd love to know the answer, and I'm sure there are many more here who would also like to know. Anybody?!

quote:
...niether of them seem to have any interest in OSD vehicles...

Yeah, I found the same to be true. As someone here quipped in a different thread, the minute I mentioned OSD, I was "treated like a leper." They info they had was sketchy, at best, and their enthusiasm for accommodating me as "an OSD customer" was lackluster. I was disappointed, to say the least. But not all retailers are like that, from what I found out after I joined here. Thank goodness!

Yeah, it's a ridiculously good deal, isn't it? If you can wait the 12 weeks or so to get it back over here, you'd be silly NOT to do it. I especially like how you can custom-build your Volvo to suit your taste. (In other words, you don't HAVE to get a sunroof if you get an automatic, and other strange clumpings/pairings like that.)

Re: Overseas Delivery Program (kullenberg)

Pat,
I think that you don't have to pick it up from your nearest dealer. However, if you choose to pick up your OSD car from a port, you have to go through the necessary paper works plus you need to drive to the port. Picking up the car from your dealer doesn't cost nothing. Even you can register the car without paying the dealer's "processing fee" if you want to do it by yourself at DMV.
Also you don't have to order through your nearest dealers who don't seem to be interested in making commissions by selling a car to you. Maybe, Yannis can help you out to do it. When you order though ODP, you simply select a dealer where you want your car to be delivered. You don't have to buy the car from them. Yannis can answer your question better.
Yannis, where are you?????

I can't tell you how many cars I have sold in this way all over the country to people I have never met! The car has to get shipped from the port to the Retailer via SWIFT. A customer is no longer allowed to enter the Port to pick it up.
A customer can register their own car, however, once it is picked up from the Retailer.

Yannis

Re: Overseas Delivery Program (GrecianVolvo)

Thanks, Yannis.
But be careful when you pick up your new car from your dealer. I heard that some ODP customers were unhappy when picking up theirs from the designated pick-up dealers. For they used the OSD cars for test drive for other customers. It could be possible for XC90 or other new models since there may not be many of them in dealers. I know one case in Richmond, VA. (a volvo dealer there)

You can also check the story below that I did last year. I will get it updated soon, once the 03' OSD stuff is official.
http://www.swedespeed.com/features/etcetera/overseas_delivery/index.shtml
-Drew

Re: Overseas Delivery Program (GrecianVolvo)

Who told me? THE DEALERSHIP, of course. Hence my less-than-amorous comments about my "dealership experience" with respect to my OSD questions, but they were okay on most other fronts.
I was unhappy when they told me that, naturally, but I thought I read somewhere here in the forum that some guy had ordered his S60 OSD in late March/early April and he said his build date like like 8 weeks out, then it was 3-4 weeks to get it over there and wait for it to come back here on the boat...so 12 weeks. I figured they weren't pulling the wool over my eyes when they told me 12 weeks if this guy was saying the same thing online.
No they weren't eager to accommodate me if I wanted to do an OSD, but I thought the 12 week timing wasn't all that far from the truth after I read that here... I dunno... All I have to say is if I ever do it again, I'm picking mine up over there!!!

Re: Overseas Delivery Program (Lisa62)

Yannis is correct. I have also sold Overseas Delivery Volvos to customers from outside my local area. Some Volvo retailers don't actively use the Overseas Delivery Program. I enjoy sharing this unique experience with my customers.
You can have your Overseas Delivery Volvo delivered to the Volvo dealer of your choice in the US.
Here is a clarification on Overseas Delivery time frames...
Order times are 8 to 12 weeks from placement of the car order till it is ready for pickup in Europe (except for the XC90 which currently has limited availabiltiy and longer lead times).
Once you drop your Volvo off in Europe the time to ship it back to the US is three to four weeks for the East Coast. For Volvo retailers like myself on the West Coast it takes four to six weeks to get the car. And right now no one is getting anything through West Coast ports as they are all currently locked out due to a strike. Hopefully this will remedied soon. I don't want to have to wait for cars for my customers... especially the XC90.
William

Pat and Lisa,
If you want to know more of Overseas Delivery Program, check this website: http://www.flyvolvo.com/
Unfortunatley, as you may know, there would be no discount price for XC90 due to its great demand. But you still get two free round tickets.

Good job!
I was waiting for you to discover the $660 destination charge difference. I almost posted if for you, but somehow I knew you would figure it out.
Now, if someone can just end the strike at the ports on the west coast so we can have a full line of 2003 Volvos to sell here in California! I recently placed an Overseas Delivery order on an XC90 for a mediation attorney.
If the shutdown continues...
she may have to settle the dispute
and get those workers back on the job...
so she can get her new Volvo!
William

Re: Overseas Delivery Program Prices (GrecianVolvo)

Once the supply/demand situation has leveled out (in a year , maybe?), what sort of allocation is there to the OSD program? Or do they just take them as they come?

Re: Overseas Delivery Program Prices (kullenberg)

Pat,
There isn't really an allocation for Overseas Delivery. Other than for November and December of this year when because of just starting production - Volvo only allocated 50 XC90's for Overseas Delivery. We are now ordering them for customers via Overseas Delivery. Currently an XC90 order placed now would be ready for pickup in Sweden in March of next year. This is a longer lead time than for the other Volvos, but I expect that to change as the production ramps up.
Any other Overseas Delivery questions, please post or email me.
William
