Hello. Does anyone know if the 122S was ever sold without rearview mirrors on either side? Reason I ask is that a car I'm looking to buy doesn't have them and current owner says it never did.
Many thanks in advance. - phil
Outside mirrors were usually dealer installed, as requirements and tastes varied in different markets. This is no "correct" mirror or placement, although there are several versions we see often.
It's pretty unusual not to have a mirror on the driver's side, at least. Possibly it wasn't legally required in whatever state the car was sold new. ???
Phil,
Thx! It is a car bought in Sweden and sent to the US by the original owner. I appreciate your prompt reply.
- phil
Phil R;
Is this 122 LHD or RHD?
Possibly a 123GT? Check the tops of the fenders about midway for indications of mirror mountings.
http://www.vlvworld.com/120/photo/123gr.jpg
George Dill

George,
It's badged as a 122S, LHD. The code was for a hi-compression model. I had to pass on it because there was extensive rotting of the frame and subframe. It's a shame because otherwise, the rust and bondo were acceptable. The front fenders had been replaced and no indication of any holes for mirror mounts. My search for a decent 122 continues. I've got a lead at Susquehanna Spares (in PA) to check out a few this coming weekend.
Thanks for replying. It's great to have a 122 forum!
I'm kinda partial to '68s or newer although I'm more concerned about condition and driveability.
Condition, a #3, #2.5 or #2 driver, either stone stock or some mild mods are ok. The model doesn't really matter much as long as the frame, floors, and other body panels are solid. I prefer 2 or 4-door, but it's all about condition. It's gotta be a stick, w/OD preferred, but 4-speed is cool. Limited slip would be swell, but I can get that later.
Color: almost anything but white or beige although, again, condition is more important.
Price? If you mean, "How do ya got?", about $3000 - $3700. I'd like to stay away from the higher end to allow myself the frivolities of new tires, battery, tune up, whatever.
Am I dreaming here or in the ballpark?
Whatcha got? - phil
Here is a general USA search with most of the garbage culled...
http://www.google.com/search?a...ctive
George Dill
