Good evening,

I'm a new member but have been reading post on this site for over a year, very helpful thanks for your tips.

I have a 2012 Volvo C30 Rdesign w/polestar that I bought used a year ago. The car only had 33000KM with a clean car proof. The car seemed in good shape when I bought it from a Ford dealer but soon realized that it had a few issues but since it was still under warranty I got a few things replaced, logos on front grill for both Volvo and Rdesign, front end links, front top suspension mount and bearings, transmission torque mount. Yep a few items, I also replaced the summer tires as they had cupped inside.

I've been trying to identify a problem and need your help, when changing gears on light acceleration from 1st to 2nd I here a small click and can feel the vibration in the shifter would you have any ideas?

Any members in Ottawa that have a C30 Rdesign that we could compare?

Volvo is suppose to send a specialist since the Volvo garage can't find the problem and are tempted to change the transmission?

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for your help,
Claude

Wow i just bought a 2011 c30 r design and i have a small click going from first to second. Its not very loud i i dont think it happens every time but im heard it about 4 times so far and it only happens with very light acceleration. I have auto aswell. I dont really feel it anywhere just the click Its kinda like the click you hear sometimes when the cars compresser kicks on

Join us at c30crew.com few hundred owners of c30's. I've had a couple and never had that issue. Sounds like tranny could be goin bad. Some of us are pushing over 340hp at crank and No issues on auto. To be honest I don't recall ANYone having a bad tranny on c30crew, If u need to replace tranny and want to mod the car in future. It's ur chance to get Level10 transmission. Google it. See u on the other side

Automatic or manual? That click is probably an axle ping noise. Pretty common and ultimate something to just live with... You can try replacing the axle bolts with the bolts from an XC90.

There's no damage from the noise, it's just a little wiggle room in the axles. I highly doubt it's the transmission. Only ever heard of 1 transmission going bad on these cars, and that was well after 100k miles and a lot of abuse.

If your tires are coning, you may want to invest in adjustable rear camber arms so you can square off the stance. -2° is still within Volvo's factory spec for an alignment, but that's pretty extreme if you're not doing a lot of sporty driving.

Actually I have a manual transmission... and does this between 1and2 gear under light acceleration (kind of stop and go in traffic) like if something is getting back in place. I`ll look at the axle bolts could I see it from under the car? thanks for the quick reply... Yep will be joining the c30crew also...

The axle bolts are actually on the ends. Remove your wheel center caps and you can see them. CV axles are designed to have a little play back and forth, so the axle ping noise is just the axle shifting back and forth when driving at slower speeds. No damage, just noise.

Strange thing is that in cold weather I can ear it louder. But if it was the axel ping noise why would I feel a vibration in the shifter? all other gears are fine...

I don't find it hard to shift but not slick either... Volvo are saying it is fine and they checked the adjustment of the cables they seem to think it is something internal to the transmission but not they are not sure, that is why they want their regional specialist to have a look at it... First Volvo I have and don't have anything to compare too. That is why I was hoping to get someone around the Ottawa area that could bring me for a ride in his C30 to compare... C30 are not common cars around here and for the few I've seen they all seem to be automatic not manual...

If I remember correctly, there are a couple of members on C30crew from Ottawa. Try posting in the "Canada" section. Go Sens!
