Well I've ordered my car. I'm waiting for deails on the travel part of the experience. I've asked my sister if she can join me, but have two questions which my sales-person didn't clearly answer. Wondering if anyone knows.
1. My sister and I live in different cites, Cleveland and Chicago. Do we have to rtavel together? will they fly each of us from our respective cities?
2. She may have 4-5 days, I have a week off. Can she fly back home a day or two earlier than me?
thanks.

So you and your sister will need to depart from the same city, same flight in the US and return on the same flight from Europe to the US.
Now, that being said it looks like you are in Chicago and your sister is in Cleveland. Volvo provides airfare from a continental US location to a SAS hub city in the US. Chicago is one of the hubs, so you may be able to arrange the tickets with Volvo's travel agency from Cleveland to Chicago to Europe and then your return trip Europe to Chicago and then Cleveland.

William

Re: OSD plane travel question (William)

Charles,
You didn't say whether your sister's 4-5 days were business days. If so, consider leaving on a Friday and spending a couple of days in Copenhagen, taking the train to Goteborg on Sunday and picking up the car Monday morning. You'll be over jetlag by the time you have to drive and can sqeeze in a couple of extra vacation days. The Goteborg train station is right across the canal from the hotel so you don't need the free taxi ride you'll miss.
The only downside is OSD doesn't pay for the train ride (it wasn't much though). If you do go this route, remember that all the seats are assigned, not just first class--unlike our U.S. trains--so make sure you sit in your seat or at a stop halfway through the trip a bemused Swede will point out that you're in his seat. (Not that this happened to anyone I know...)
If your sister can't fit it in her itinerary, I'd be happy to join you--and I can take more than a week off and can say "hi hi" just like the locals.

Yannis:
Does that mean that if I buy the car myself, which I have that nobody can travel with me unless they are a co-buyer?

Re: OSD plane travel question (Charles847)

You can buy the car yourself and still take someone with you. Volvo travel needs your travel companion's information. I think that's what he meant (?). Our car is in Jeremy's name only and I have my plane ticket in my name (all of the Volvo travel paperwork has my name on it too).
I don't know about the separate dates, but if your sister could get to Chicago on her own ($), I don't see a problem. The Volvo travel seems a bit flexible, we are leaving from Copenhagen (not Goteborg) on our return (at no extra cost, although the trip would've shuttled us from Goteborg to Copenhagen anyway).
You might not mention that she's in another city and just ask about different return dates to Chicago.

I just found out that my sister can travel with me as long as one of our flights is together, so she can stay 4 days and I can stay the full week.

You can only use one name on the order and/or one address.
In the case of someone ordering a car and wanting to take, let's say, his father who lives ten states away, the order will have to bear both names, especially if one of the tickets will need to be sent to that different address so that the two people can either meet up in the States and continue their travel to Europe or meet up in Europe. That rarely happens but, nonetheless, it happens.
Yannis

You do not need to have the same itenerary. Travel corp consisders that an open ticket. You can have 2 starting points at the starting point with a exact departure point back from Europe....or have the same starting point with a different departure point from Europe than where you started out.
I left from Bakersfield, CA since my family lives there, and my OSD partner left from Ontario. The only draw back was that we had to drop the car off in Nice, France and work our way back to Gothenburg since our open end ticket was in the states.
