Good day everyone -

We placed an OSD order through a NE Ohio dealer on Aug 9th - I still haven't gotten any confirmation for the order, should I be worried? I am looking to travel to Sweden in late November/early December. Do you all think this is feasible?

Further our dealer doesn't seem to know exactly how the OSD program works, so can someone outline the steps and some timeline between milestones?

My process was the following:
1 - Placed order with dealer and paid the $3k down payment and signed the dealer contract
2 - About 2 business days later I received an email from Volvo Corporate's Overseas Delivery with the confirmation of my dealer order and the Volvo corporate contract to sign.
3 - Once that was complete I was able to get information on the estimated completion date from the Volvo OSD team (they have a phone number you can call - the US headquarters are in northern NJ)
4 - I was contacted by Adtrav to setup my trip - I had the initial consult but nothing has been scheduled yet because my order was placed during the buy now fly later program due to covid, so I will not be traveling until sometime next year.

My car is scheduled to be completed on Thursday, at which point the Volvo OSD team has said I should be able to get my VIN.

Interesting - thank you for sharing. I'm not sure what my dealer is up to but for example the guy told me "The way it works on the dealer side is we have to select a vehicle from our pipeline to alter to your specs, so we have that submitted" which doesn't sound right given what I have read/heard.

Based on some prior comments from the dealers who post here and are experienced in OSD, that information is no longer correct. Did you sign anything with the dealership in Ohio yet? Did you give them the 3K?

The deposit was made at the time, yes. Frustrating, I'll have to give them a call.

I would call them for sure. Hopefully they're talking with the Volvo OSD team to get a better handle on how the order process goes. If you're concerned and uncomfortable with how things are going, see if you can get your deposit back and place your order with a dealership that has OSD experience. I ordered mine with Mike at Steingold. They do a ton of out of state orders. He might be a bit busy right now though - Rhode Island just had Tropical Storm Henri roll through yesterday.

Based on Dealer non knowledge, suggest you contact Volvo OSD to learn if your order was placed.
For questions regarding Volvo Overseas Delivery or custom ordering, speak with one of our Overseas Delivery or product specialists. We are available via chat, by phone at 800.631.1667 or by email at [email protected] .

At the worst you may need to be flexible on your delivery date. And the impact COVID has on may cause issues.

Following up and closing the matter from my end -

Got the order form submitted this afternoon, according to the dealer and OSD XC90 T8 is suspended but you can slide one in via pipeline alteration. Looks like a December delivery in Sweden which fits our timeline.

Nice going. FWIW, I spoke with adTravel earlier today and one of the questions I asked was whether the factory tours are now available. The answer was no, with the caveat "To Be Determined." If that is on your wish list hopefully by the December delivery tours may be back. (Of course if it is too close to Christmas the holiday period may well preclude tours anyway.)

Did they give you any reason for the delay? Parts shortage or this possible battery upgrade? I submitted my order for one 2 months ago and have gotten no new info.

You should ask dealer to check with them and get order confirmed. After confirmed and get an order number, you can plan your trip and book it with adTrav, while waiting for a brochure package mailed to you in a month or so.

One month before your trip, sign the payment to dealer with a loan from Volvo Finance or your own loan from penfed for example. You may need to ask Volvo for the VIN. The loan bank needs to allow a loan before title is available.

One or two weeks before your trip, FDC will contact you to make any accessory purchases at FDC and confirm your diner, etc. It is quite straightforward.

We were told by adtrav they don't do the brochure packets anymore.

And with shortages we were told that accessories are no longer able to added after the initial order.

Thanks for the breakdown of the traditional OSD, but ours is going to be direct shipped. We've had the order number for 2 months and already spoke with adtrav about a trip for next summer but haven't heard anything about the car. That's why I was curious what the OP heard about the XC90 Recharge delays.

December is a great time to go. Plenty of Christmas decorations and celebrations going on. No idea what it would be like with covid going on though but if its some what normal Kalmar Castle had a cool Christmas market throughout it along with traditional Swedish Christmas activities and such.

I just got off the phone with Volvo OSD. Looks like they are about a week behind in build (my car was slated to be completed yesterday but not it's not expected until next week).
