Can a dealer tack on a documentation fee if I am registering the car and paying taxes myself?

There was also some fee on their for scribing i.d. numbers into some of the car parts... that was stricken quickly, but I still wonder about the documentation fee.

Hmm... Well, we are leaving for our trip the day after Thanksgiving, so I'm trying to get this sorted out quickly, so I can get our financing completed Monday.

How do I "not have to pay" the documentation fee ? (gascos80)

I had been waiting for the local dealer to provide me with a sales invoice with VIN# to provide to my credit union. They have had some turnover, so don't really have anyone there that has processed an OSD order....

Its getting sorted out, but I still need a couple questions answered. One question, is there anything in writing from Volvo on the insurance coverage that I can provide my lender to show its covered until it gets to port.

The process was a little different from me. The VCNA order confirmation came soon after my order/deposit was submitted in October, but without a VIN number. There was some confusion at the local dealer about being able to see the VIN locally until just a few days ago, to produce a sales order at the dealer. But its all together now. Barbara at VCNA was very helpful during the process and was able to send me details on the insurance from Volvo to satisfy the lender. Sign the loan papers tomorrow, so should be set... whew....
