Leaving Toronto May 14th 2016 for delivery of an XC90 on May 16th. Anyone else going out of Toronto around that time. Would like to hear what plans you might be making for visiting Sweden and/or Denmark.
Sorry we will miss you. We are traveling later in May. Our plans are to spend 3 nights in Stockholm, plane to Gothenburg (included in free travel) for 3 nights, train (our dime) to Copenhagen for 3 nights.
What interests you? There is a lot to see in/around Gothenburg -- town museum, art museum, Volvo museum, Maarstrand, Hono/Ockero, just walking around town. We also visited Ystad for "Ale Stenar" (literally "Al's Stones" -- a small Stonehenge-like site). Copenhagen has some great museums including an incredible Egyptian Collection and one of Rodin's Bugher's of Calais. Roskilde has Viking ship museum and the cathedral where Danish Kings& Queens are buried. Odense has Han's Christen Anderson's birthplace. Helsingor has the "Macbeth" Castle.
How many days? Have you taken long road trips before? Are you a "plan as you go" or a "gotta have hotel reservations planned every night a month ahead of time" traveler?
We've been on long-term road trips before in the US, Canada, and Europe. We typically get hotel at the beginning and end (somewhere reasonably close to the airport) and are comfortable picking up hotel (or B&B) along the way. If we didn't decide where we wanted to spend the night *before* leaving the hotel in the morning (in which case we'd use hotel wifi), we'd stop mid-afternoon at a McD's or other public wifi to make reservations for the night. Hotels are a place to sleep and we'd rather end up eating food from a rest stop because we had an unplanned stop at the Waterloo Battlefield & tarried too long than to have a fancy meal (although those are nice too!).
