Anyone know of what the options are for accessories that allow you to carry 4 bikes on a 2018 V90 Cross Country? Thanks!

It has a hitch that automagically folds down. Problem is it already has a ball mounted on it. Worse, it's not a standard 2" US size. Worse still, it can't be removed to my knowledge to leave the square socket. Happy to be wrong about this but don't think so.

You could probably fit four bike trays on the Volvo roof carrier. You’d have to reverse two of the bikes, and it would be tight. I only have two, so I’m not really sure four would work. Still waiting on invisihitch to come out with a square receiver for the CC. Still no word when that might happen. May have to give up and get the Volvo hitch so I can tow and give up on using my 1up hitch bike rack.

If you're willing to go aftermarket and deal with a hitch showing a little underneath you can get a class II or III for it for about $160. It's a 10/10 install (removing body panels and trimming a few pieces) but I've done a 10/10 BMW X5 hitch myself and if you're careful it's not that difficult. BMW wanted $1300. With the wiring I spent about $210. $1100 saved for about 2 hours in the garage.

So I did some serious digging online and have discovered that there are no, as in zero, bike racks available that mount directly to the 2" tow ball on the Volvo folding hitch for the Americas. There are some euro models eg. Thule HangOn that will attach to the 50mm euro tow ball, but nothing for the 2" in US market ... because everyone here uses the 2"x2" square receiver for bike racks - the 2" inch ball is only used for actually "towing" trailers, campers, boats, etc.

I also think that Volvo recently updated the accessories page for the foldable towbar, https://accessories.volvocars.com/e...m/en-us/V90 Cross Country/Accessories/Document/VCC-510072/2019/T6 AWD/Automatic, to clearly state "Note! Cannot be combined with hitch-mounted accessories designed for 50 mm ball diameter."

Shame ... unlikely I know but here's hoping Volvo will introduce a 2"x2" square foldable towbar/receiver at some point.

Thanks for watching this....

Yeah... that is a new "Note" on the accessories page. This is getting frustrating. Am I the only one that was under the impression that an updated folding towbar/hitch was in the works.... that actually "works" for anything but a trailer? I've held off adding this to my order an it looks like that as a smart move thusfar.. when is this going to get resolved? Some of us who buy CC Wagons actually want the versatility that a hitch and load bars offer....

I saw that warning about the 50mm ball hitch and bike racks back in 2017 when I bought my CC new. Have sent in numerous emails asking for a square hitch solution to Volvo—all to no avail. But I still am holding out hope. That’s the reason I still haven’t installed a hitch.

The guys at invisihitch said one would be available last Fall, and then by spring ‘18, but they’ve gone silent on me, and I fear no CC square hitch is coming even though they’ve found the time to put hitches together for the Stelvio and Allroad. The CC has to have sold as many units as the Stelvio for cripes sake.

Invisihitch—if you’re reading, we really want your hitch for the CC. Please...

So Volvo is still putting the ball hitch on their NA vehicles ??!! I had a 98 with that same problem, couldn't fit a damn thing on the back in terms of racks. Drove me nuts because I had to totally remove the OEM and install one with a square hole. C'mon Volvo ... wake the hell up on this. It's not as if NA is a small market for your cars.

Some of you proposed roof, 4 is a lot of weight up there depending on kind of bikes. That and it is awkward and inconvenient to put the bikes up there and take down. Hitch is best way to go but even then, 4 on the back of a V90 is quite a bulky rack.

I've been putting 4 bikes on the roof of vehicles for decades. The vast majority of them much smaller than the V90. It's inconvenient only in a different way than the also very inconvenient hitch rack.

Didn't Yannis hint awhile back that something new was coming soon related to the folding one in another thread?

#19 ·
You are making assumptions about the price. The XC60 and XC40 invisihitches start at $468, XC90 from $538. The price for the V90CC will very likely be in that range.

#21 ·
Ah ok thanks. Sounds like identical pricing to the XC90, with an additional $460 for the tow-bar combo. $998 all in. About the same price as volvo's folding tow-bar only. not cheap but at least there is an option for a bike rack on the back now!

You want to be careful what those cheap hitches connect to. If they connect to the solid underframe of the unibody you could lose the benefit of the rear crumple zone when all the shock of a hit goes straight from the hitch to the main body of the car.

Yes, love it. Been using it for towing and with my 1up hitch rack. Towed a boat right at the Euro tow limit weight with no problems. Not as convenient as the Volvo folding hitch to be sure, but now I can use hitch racks. The only part that is a little bit awkward is getting the key in the lock to remove the attachment. Otherwise it’s quick and easy snap and go to attach the hitch or tie mount.

saw this option

i was watching the tour de france and saw this option which comes in a 4 bike setup. i like it because it can easily be removed which keeps the clean lines of the car in tact.

https://www.seasucker.com

i have a thule system on my car, thule aero blade and upride combination, which works great but is not easily removed and then put back on.

I'm not sure I'd want to trust my $8k custom bike to suction cups  Also, I'd be concerned with any dust/dirt under the cups doing damage to the paint.

V90 CC Hitch Option

Not official yet, but I was easily able to install a Curt Manufacturing hitch spec'd for the S90 on my 2018 V90 CC. No problems. Install instructions are a little different, but easy to figure out.

Haven't used it yet, but will be using with my Thule 4 bike rack with the 2" receiver.

https://www.curtmfg.com/part/13305

Install changes...

No bumper cover fasteners INSIDE trunk/hatch.
Must remove hatch bumper stops.
Take care to replace bumper spacer that rides on top of bumper rail
Two electrical connectors in either corner of bumper. (I forgot to reconnect first time around:p)

Is there any advantage to using the Stealth Hitch over a Curt, other than being able to have a "stock" look by removing the receiver? I don't care about that and am happy to leave the hitch visible full time, but I know the Curt does require some cutting to install. I can't seem to find a Stealth Hitch install video.

#37 ·
Yes. The stealth hitch gives you a rock solid connection for towing with no wobble and no clunking of the hitch connection when towing a trailer. Lets you tow at the euro weight limit if you care to, which is a good deal higher than the US limit. It also comes with the Volvo electrical harness which engages the Volvo towing features when in use such as anti sway and different reverse camera view. Putting a curt on a car this nice is sort of tragic.
