Optimal Tire Pressure

Hi. Just bought a 2001 S40 in Toronto last month. Didn't like the ride at all when I first got it. Too bumpy! Turns out the dealer didn't check the tire pressure before giving me the car, so the front tires were at 23 PSI. I've set the front at 32 PSI and the back at 29 PSI, since the book indicates that this will give a 'smoother ride'. Anyone else try this? Should I just use the normal 39 front 32 back settings?
