Alright, now we're moving. I just picked up a set of black leatherette/gray cloth recaros from an older Mk 2 Volkswagen (GTI I believe as they have the quick release). Anyway, they're not in the prettiest condition, but one is okay. Both will need new bolster foam, and the one will need replacement of the leatherette on two bolsters.
The gray doesn't quite match the car, but it'll do. However, since I'm going to take them to the upholsterer anyway, I'm going to see what it'd cost to recover the centers...maybe in Alcantara like our R had. Something tells me though that this might not be worth it.
The only other trick mod I'd like to do to these is to try to fit the 240 style open headrest. I'm not going to try all that hard, as the headrests don't seem to be removeable from the Recaros right now anyway. I need to play more.
Anyone know a good source for Recaro seat rails for a 240?

Hey George,
So you finally got this project going, eh? I thought you were not going to get the seats anymore. Sorry to take me so long to dig up the place where I got my bracket. Although some may tell you to just make the bracket yourself when you really study the overal design, it's not that easy.
Which upholstery shop are u going to get this done?
The contact info for the rail:
Vicari Motors Inc.
1290 Route 12
Frenchtown, NJ 08825
(908)9964161
Hope this helps...
I got my bracket for $125, so it's not that bad. I don't really think custom building one is going to be cheaper...or worthwhile.
Before I plunk down the money, I may try to see how far off my Mk2 VW brackets are.
Yeah, the project is slowly taking motion. I'm going to do a quick dog-proofing article and then start moving into some more real upgrades like tachometer gauge kit, and then seats.
As for upholstery, do you have a suggestion? I've used a guy up in Belair, MD who was quite affordable before and he did nice work. He's pretty far away though, so I'd consider some place closer.
I'm thinking I'll stop down to Rob's on Saturday BTW to photo the C70 and maybe his 242 also.
BTW, thanks for the lead.

George, my boss has a good friend who does upholstery work right around the corner from our shop...I can give you his card when you come by Saturday. He did the Konig seat in my blue 242.
Rob

George, if you get an estimate, I'd be very interested to know what it might cost to rebolster and reupholster a Recaro seat. I can get one from my dad, but it hasn't been used in 5 years and it's in bad shape. I don't even know if it could be repaired, but it might be worth the cost on a free seat.

Well, it appears the bases are going to cost me $125 a piece. So I'm already in this for $275 a seat if I do that.
In the end, I'm not sure if it was worth it. I might have been able to buy a set of Corbeaus for the same price.
Still, I'll have some nice Recaros that should be highly saleable. If that guy is around the corner, I may just throw them in the back of the 240 before I cruise down and let him take a look at it.

That should be a no brainer for them, but they don't have it for the C70 because of the mechanism the current annoying, slow eletronic sliding seats have.
Not that I'm not content with the current seat I have, but during hard cornering, I tend to get tossed around sometimes.
AWESOME!! Kai, do you know who I should call, or what site I should go to to get everything I need. That would be a fun project, of course I would just change out the front two seats.

Alright, I posted before I searched for recaros. OOPS! Bad mistake, I found out that www.recaro.com has it.
Just one question, how much $$$$$ is it?? I'm a little tight on cash. I'd have to change the brackets, and I'd get the RECARO Speed seats, the black/red combination
Thanks Kai, in advance

They probably have one of the best prices for Recaro seats in the East coast. Try also give CFI Motorsports a call, I know most likely Pete won't be able to compete with Vicari's prices, but you can get a good idea how much the market prices should be.
(no hard feeling, Pete, if you are reading)
For the 240, it was really easy, took us about a little bit over half hour to do swap out the old one and put the new one in.
On the 850 could be a bit tricky...with all the wires and stuff for the power seat, but should not be something you can't accomplish over the weekend. Good luck, and let us know how the project goes.

New Recaros aren't cheap. You can also try http://www.newdimensions.com . Those guys are VW tuners, but a Recaro distributor.
One of the reasons I went with used ones is because they are generally a couple hundred dollars a piece.
Also, consider that you will lose your SIPS as I recall they are located in the seat correct?

In terms of how much $$..depends on which model of recaro u want...so, hard to say. You can pay up to $1500+ per seat if you want the top of the line model.

haha, I wish I could have the nicest ones, I found some Recaro Sport ones, I like the way they look, I'm just not sure how much they are. When I get home, I'll start calling around, I'm just trying to get an idea of how much $ I need to make in order to get these seats.

On putting them in your 850, does your car have SIPS? Aren't they mounted in the seats? If so, you'll be losing your SIPS system when you put in the Recaros.
Seems like a cool upgrade for the 240. Make sure to post pics.
[This message has been edited by Evolvo (edited 01-28-2002).]

Yeah, Evolvo. I was thinking about that, and I called for prices. Speed & Truck World, which is about 10 mins away from me, looked at my car... and said, "recaro's in a volvo"??? Well... he got a good laugh out of it. He quoted me a price of $500.00 a piece for the seats... the bindings are extra, but he might be able to "find" some...
Oh well, I had to gain some respect for my Volvo, so on the way out I raced this guy's SVT Lightning who goes there, I took him off the line... but I was roasted past 60, of course the guys at Speed & Truck World only saw until about 40... haha, let them wonder who won!
Anyways... I'm sure the Recaro's would look really nice in the 240... btw, sorry for stealing your post, George... it's all good

Doesn't matter to me. It's all about seats right? Seems on topic.
You may want to price around with other places that won't be giving you that atitude. Sounds like they don't really want to be bothered.
