Hi y'all,
I read a little while ago that there aren't that many R's in Texas. That's funny, because I flew down to Texas two weeks ago for the first time in my life, and the first car I see coming out of the airport in Austin is a black R standing right in front of me at the loading curb.
Anyway, I am moving myself down to Austin next week and my R will be joining me one week after that. It's time for my first service and I thought I'd wait till I'm down there, because I want to find a place I can trust to take care of my most valuable material posession. Any pointers to good Volvo shops in Austin? I'm willing to go a little out of the way to have it taken care of well...
Thanks!
P.S.: There was a discussion about a GTG. Here's one more vote for Austin!

Roger Beasley also has a dealership south of Austin, where I purchased my R. I drove from just north of Houston, about three hours but they seem very good. I'm not for sure how they feel about modifications because my local dealer will do the service and they are totally against aftermarket mods. Basically you have at least two choices depending on which side of town you are on.

Re: (C130)

Thanks guys, sounds like you guys had good experiences there. I've only spent one night in Austin, so I have no idea yet which one I'll be closer to.
On a slightly different topic... How many R's in Austin? Any estimates?

Re: (Tomtebo)

I think there's one on this board. Slowery That's the only one I can remember seeing. I'm about one hour north of Austin, but Leander which is near NW Austin/Cedar Park is home to Oldman. He owns a S40 T5 but I don't hold that against him. He knows his stuff and is a real good weekend wrencher for side money and conversation if you have a need and it's soemthing that maybe you wouldn't want to pay for at dealers. ...like a clutch.
I visit him from time to time, perhaps we could gtg sometime?
Friday nights or Saturdays are best for him.
BTW, the Taco Cabana at Research and Mopac is often a meeting place for mostly Euro import (older/wiser) guy's on Friday nights. Oldman and I have been seen "chewing the fat" and the occasional taco at those. It's laid back.
There's another meeting place for serious folks where real street racers show up, it's not too far from Cabana, you can IM me if you want to know more about that group.

Another R here in South Austin. Currently I'm working on getting a GTG soon with a dealership to possibly sponsor it. I'll keep you posted.

Re: (Dzljet)

Sorry, about the delay. I've been busy packing. I'm flying to Austin tomorrow and it'll be at least another week till my R gets there too.
It'd be cool to meet up some evening just to get to know each other. I'll send you an IM ( as soon as I figure out how...).
I'm interested in the bigger GTG as well. I'll keep checking in with what's up.

Don't have an R.. but I have an S60. Its nice to see an increasing number of R owners in the Austin area on this board.

Here's another Austin R owner in NW Austin. I would avoid Roger Beasley Austin and take it to Georgetown regardless of whether it is closer or not. I did not have any good experiences at the Austin location. Rick at the Georgetown location has been very nice and helpful.
