Re: OMG! They are making S40s in China!!!! OMG!!! (myVolvoS60T5)

Recently posted in this thread as well. The answer is because the Chinese auto market is huge, and Volvo, like GM and others, wants a piece of it. Same reason why the Japanese manufacturers went crazy building plants in the US in the 80's and 90's.

I personally will only buy a swedish car built in Belgium! but some of the best rubber dog poop comes china not to mention ALL Burger King Kids meal toys. I've never had a problem with the rubber poop nor the BK toys, so I'm sure they can handle swedish cars.

the Belgians have a few things to fall back on, "French Fries" were actually invented in Belgium not france, it's just " Belgian Fries " didn't sound as good. they got totally rad chocolate , and Beer. and they build nice swedish cars.

Jobs???!!!!! hahahaha, the tech sector has been outsourcing to Asia for 10+ years. Try and find a piece of electronics in your house that WASN'T built there. The fact is, consumers want something for nothing. They could build anything from rubber boots to Space ships in NA but none of YOU would pay for them because they would be "too expensive".

Personally I'm not that big of a fan either but it's no secret it's cheaper to build there. Hell, they can ship the raw materials there, get it built and ship it back and it still costs less.

Oh, and like others have said, most the cars they build at the moment are for in market, however, they are trying to sell to other countries now. It's rumoured that Honda has a China built car destined for the Euro and NA market. There is also a Chinese company that recently launched an SUV in the UK. It should be noted that said SUV was the first vehicle in history to score a "0" for crash test ratings
. I'll try and find the link.

My sarcasm detector is in the shop for repairs. Is this thread for real? Loss of jobs? Was that a real concern? You're worried about the Belgian job market?

I bought my Volvo for it's status as "european" make and quality. I would never be caught dead in a japanese car beacuse (insert social/political excuse here). Domestic brands are (insert rant about quality and design here).
G#d forbid that my status symbol be made in a country that is know for producing cheap labor and poor quality.
NOOOOO!!

i think is better to change the vision that "made in china" is bad, most of the things are made there and taiwan, there is more than just "made" word meaning, for example Taiwan support all the exports for small companies so is very cheap to ship from there to US and Americas. You can look your computer and you will see the great quality out there for china products.

Each factory has a special quality standards and process thats the important thing.
