Well, after being the only guy with a 850 at the past few GTGs I've decided to conform.

So here's what I got...It's an 85 244 GL. It has AC, full power everything, cruise, sunroof, aluminum wheels, 4-wheel disk brakes!? auto trans, and a few other goodies. The car has 125K miles, runs and looks great. Got it for $1000. Will drive it home tonight. Owner just put all new brakes, tires, tune-up, and had general maintenance done last month. (Guess it was a good deal as the car will go through MD inspection with no problem.) The owner was having his wife drive the car and she got tired of the little electrical bugs. Seems the power windows only go down and not up! Dealer told him the motors were dead. (friggin retards) So from the way it looks, I have some relays or switches that have gone bad. Oh, and a tail light socket and some loose wires in the dash lights to mess with. Just have some questions about the car...it has the tach and oil pressure gauges as well as the usual things. So was this some sorta package from the dealer? It seems to me the car has a few extras on it that I didn't figure Volvo corp would have put into an every-day econo car. So that's the deal. Guess now I need to start playing with some items! Where should I start?

Holy sh1t..how did this happen....?

Well, to start off...I'd do the suspension parts first. And make it an initial D ride.

As far as the engine goes...forget about the V8 twin turbo I was planning, get the lighter weight RB26DE and use the same twin turbo setup that the factory would. And get some GT2835 (or GT3037S!)turbos in there...few boost controller upgrades, intercooler upgrade, exhaust, A/F controller...you'd be doing more than 600hp before you know it.
And the internal parts should last you up to 500~600hp range.

Forget about silly heavy V8 from these american cars. But then again...a simple 302 with twin turbo setup would be a whole lot cheaper and easier to get your hands on.

HAH, that's great. Hey Matt, we'll have to have a 240 GTG now. I'm finally done traveling for a while, so perhaps after Thanksgiving we can all GTG.

My 245 is currently on loan with my sister in PA until I sell our 850R, but I can always go up and get it. I really miss the car. It's just so dang practical.

Geroge, man...do show up. I feel very bad about the last GTG, I believe Michael would have more to say about it than I do.

But..yeah..let's plan to meet right after Thanksgiving weekend or something. Let's get a firm date that will work out for everyone. I seriously doubt I will be driving the C70 if it starts snowing, not that I baby my car like crazy (okay maybe just a little). I just found it hard to believe the amount of salt MD area is using even for less than 2 inch snow.

For a person who lived in Rochester (where we have snow almost 7 months a year), this DC metro area people are just a bit too much. Besides the fact that people can't drive, and do worse in the snow and rain...
I was just shocked to see how paranoid these people act when it comes to bad weather.

Well, after spending some serious $$$ on refinishing the wheels (dang, and I only took it out in the snow once) on the C70, I won't be driving that car in MD winter at all. So...if you still want to check it out...let's meet up soon~~

Not sure if Matt will have time, though. He just recently got lucky and will soon be changing his Islamic name soon. Hehehe..Matt, would you like to share your old Islamic name?

How did you know about me hittin it off!? Damn, I haven't even started to tell you about where I have been this week. But lets not get to talking about that sorta stuff here.

So about the car...that is also a long story. Needless to say I was at the right place at the right time. (Oh, and in a damn good mood too!)

Tach was stock in the GL, regardless of transmission. Oil pressure gauge was a factory option or added later by a previous owner. The kit is available from Volvo, or the parts can't be salvaged from any 240 Turbo.

edit: How much rust does it have?

I gave the car a good "looking over" and do not recall finding any rust. I will be working on the windows tonight and will be playing with the car for a while. I will be able to get a much closer look at everything then. I'll let you know what I find.

Also...where is the engine code located on this car? I want to see if I have the B230 or not. I understand it was first in the 240's in 1985 so mine should have it but may not. Oh, and are there any real trouble areas in which I need to look for on these cars?

Thanks

Prospero...the happy one...
