Hi Guys
Thanks for your input, it did shed some illumination on what vehicle I should purchase out of the 3 choices, on the passat gls 1.8- V70 2.4 and the 2.4T V70. The next objective is to ascertain any data on improving the gas mileage on the V70 2.4T. Volvo purports the mileage as 27 highway and 20 city.
Would a performance chip increase overall mileage? I read all the claims that they do, but can any Swedespeeders verify this to be factual? I researched several high performance exhaust systems from Ipd and do they increase gas mileage?
Last but not lease, has anyone seen the infomercial pushing the 'Tornado'
It that circular turbine device that you can place in you intake system near you air filter. Supposedly, it impoves your gas/ air mixture which in turn creates more horsepower and better gas mileage. Is there really a Santa Cluas

Re: Okay sounds like it's going to be the 2.4T V70 but.... (yohuff)

I am not sure that, in your case, what you are going to see...In my case, mileage has been unaffected under normal conditions but I can guarantee you that if you upgrade your ECU and/or add a sport exhaust, you are going to drive the car more agressively and more often. I do not beat my car but I do take advantage of my "new" engine more times than I used to
So, you are going to see some decresed mileage, by default. But not a big difference.
Never heard anything positive and/or negative about this "tornado" thing but my first thought would be "beware"!
Yannis

Don't buy the Tornado, it's a hoax. If you do a search on ClubB5 there have been discussions about it. Don't waste your money on it.
Ron

You cannot increase mileage with a chip. All ECU chips will end up making the mileage worse because you will want to push the car a bit more than you would stock, hehe.
Other than that, using synthetic oil might give you better mileage, and better engine protection.

<<The next objective is to ascertain any data on improving the gas mileage on the V70 2.4T. Volvo purports the mileage as 27 highway and 20 city.
>>
The easiest way to solve your dilemma is to buy a manual trannie V70 T5. You get an additional 1 MPG (woo-hoo!) both city & highway & no need (OK, less need ) to lay out big bucks for a chip. Just be aware that driving the T5 for optimum mileage is like going on a date with Cindy Crawford & promising not to wrinkle her dress with your sweaty paws. It's theoretically possible, but not easy.
If you do an real apples to apples comparison between the T5's standard equipment & the 2.4T with the same options (DSTC, fog lights, etc., etc.) as priced in the USA, you'll find that there's only about $450-500 difference between the 2.
